Rome, a distant place that I have always seen from books since I was a child, always feels incredible when I arrive at these places that I have heard of since my younger age. Always feel unreal when things that used to exist only in the books standing right in front of my eyes, no matter how many times I went through it.
Speaking of the landmark that best represents Rome, it is impossible not to mention the Colosseum. The Colosseum is much bigger than what I can imagined, people seems so tiny in front of the it. I can't help but admire the creativity and building technology of people from the age of thousands of years ago. As someone who loves history and travel, the Colosseum is a wonderful place. As far as I know, the Colosseum is one of the few large buildings that has survived thousands of years but still stands, most buildings of ancient civilizations cannot withstand the weathering process of thousands years.
In contrast of the well-preserved of Colosseum, is the Palatine Hill's Roman ruins located at the opposite of Colosseum. Palatine Hill is the place where ancient Rome originated from. There are still many ruins remnants here but most of them are very dilapidated. I can't even imagine the original appearance of these buildings without the introduction board before the ruins. With this level of contrast, it show how preciousness of the Colosseum's degree of preservation. If the Colosseum represented the old glory days of the empire, then the ancient ruins of Palatine representing the end of the empire. Italy is much hotter than what I'm expected in summer, especially in the Palatine Hill, the lack of shading due to the tattered ruins is a bit unbearable for me even as a person from a tropical country.
I always consider myself a lucky person, I was able to go wherever I wanted to go and buy whatever I wanted to buy. Hopefully this lifestyle could be preserved so that I can have the opportunity to travel to all the distant places that I have read during my childhood.
