Mr. and Mrs. Smith were civil servants who lived in the city of Lagos. They were blessed with three children: two females and one male. They all lived together as one big happy family, and they were the envy of their neighborhood, as everyone wanted their families to be like theirs. Mr. and Mrs. Smith brought up their children with so much love as they all played and got each other's back. They all grew together in love, and one could tell that they had quite a good relationship between them.
The first child of the family is the only male child named Diamond, and his other siblings are females named Gold and Silver, respectively, but Gold is the eldest while Silver is the baby of the house. Both Diamond and Gold are in senior secondary school and almost done as they are writing their final examination, while Silver is in junior secondary school. Gold was able to be in the same class as Diamond due to the double promotion that was given to her when she was in junior secondary school. Despite being in the same class as her brother, she never disrespected him because she knew their parents wouldn't allow such.
"I'll be out of secondary school in a few months; I can't wait to be out of uniform school," Gold said to Silver one evening after dinner while in their room as they were doing their assignments.
"Do you now want me to run away?" Silver asked rudely.
"I know you are pained that you will be the only one left at home after I've gone to the university," Gold responded.
Silver stood up and rushed out, shouting "Mom, Mom" at the top of her voice.
"What is it this time?" Mrs. Smith replied from the living room, where she was watching a program with Diamond, their eldest brother.
"Mom, warn my sister; she said I'm pained because I will be alone at home after she has gone to the university"," Silver said.
"Won't you be pained, or are you not pained?" Diamond cut in.
"And did I ask you to reply to her?" Mrs. Smith snaps.
"But it's true now; as the baby of the house, you and Mummy will be gisting," Diamond said jokingly.
"Don't mind them; you will have a nice time with me and your dad," Mrs. Smith replied.
Silver smiled as she went back to the room. The three siblings were always at each other's throats; that is, they always found one or two things to complain to their parents about, and with this, the house was always buzzing.
After Diamond and Gold completed their final secondary school leaving certificate examination, luckily for them, they got admission that same year into different universities, and they had to leave home for school and only visit their parents during holidays, which might be once a year.
Four years later, when Silver graduated from secondary school, she was hoping to gain admission into a higher institution too, and at that time, Gold was already in her final year. Diamond was studying engineering, which gave him two more years to use at the higher institution.
"Mom, I'm finally done with secondary school; I will soon join Diamond and Gold in a higher institution; I can't wait," Silver said with excitement to her mother one afternoon while they were discussing on the balcony.
"So you are happy; you are leaving me and your dad. I will tell him when he is back from work," Mrs. Smith said jokingly.
"No, Mom, but I would have to leave one day; that's exactly how it happened with my elder ones; I have to further my education too, although I will miss you so much."" Silver said it to her mom with a smile.
"The Lord will see you all through; that's my prayer for you all," Mrs. Smith replied.
After a few years, both Diamond and Gold had graduated from their various institutions and were now married to their various partners, while Silver was still in a higher institution.
They no longer see their parents as they wish; they only talk on the phone, but both Diamond and Gold decide to visit their parents' house on a Christmas holiday with their families, surprising their parents.
On getting to their parent's house, the house was lit with laughter, and as usual, the siblings found one or two things to fight about.
"Mom, see, your daughter is getting fatter; tell her to register in a gym before she blows out of proportion," Diamond said, pointing at Gold, who sat on a cushion in the living room with her newborn baby boy on her lap.
"What's that supposed to mean? Am I fat? "Mom, be sincere, am I fat?" Gold asked angrily.
"You two should let's rest; don't bring your fight here, or better still go back to your houses," Silver replied.
"And who called you into the conversation, baby girl, or because you are in a higher institution now, right?" Gold replied to Silver, who was smiling.
"I thank God for bringing all of you back to us again; just like the good old days, the house is filled with laughter again after being silent for years for your absence for good", Mrs."Smith said, and they all burst into laughter.
