🦉 The coal tit or cole tit (Periparus ater)
- Peri (Greek) very, hugely
- Parus (lat.) Tit
- ater (lat.) black, dark
This is one of our smallest tits. It looks very similar to the great tit, but is smaller in size, the plumage is dark, and the head is large relative to the body.
These birds live mainly in coniferous forests, but they can also be found in mixed forests, where I actually see them every spring.
In the summer these birds seem to disappear somewhere, but sometimes I manage to meet them.
The lifestyle and diet are the same for other birds of this family. When there is a surplus, they make small reserves high in the treetops.
