🦉 The mallard or wild duck (Anas platyrhynchos)
- Anas (lat.) Duck
- platyrhynchos Greek: platus wide, rhynkhos beak
Everyone knows and everyone has seen these ducks. They literally live everywhere. however, their behavior differs depending on their habitat. Those ducks that live in an urban environment are not afraid of people, you can come close to them and even feed them by hand, which happens in the botanical park of my city (last photo).
But those ducks that live in the wild are very shy and as soon as they see you they will fly away. Just like in the fall, they fly away in search of warm places and food. But city ducks, even in my cold city, remain to spend the winter, because people feed them. And every year there is news that the rescue service has once again saved a duck frozen with its paws to the ice.
