🦉 The European goldfinch or simply the goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis)

  • Carduelis carduus (Latin) thistle

Thanks to its completely original coloring, this bird cannot be confused with any other.
They are sedentary, so they meet every year. But unfortunately not for me. I rarely meet them, just like that, in the area of direct visibility. Basically, they either fly past in a flock, or sit high in the tree crowns.

But everything changes when their favorite plant ripens - thistle. In mid-to-late July, they raid fields with this plant to feast on its seeds. This can be seen even in late autumn, when a flock of goldfinches eats already dried seeds. At these moments, the birds seem to lose their vigilance and you can carefully get closer to them.

The way this bird stands is interesting.
