🦉 The tree pipit (Anthus trivialis)

  • Anthus (ancient Greek mythology) Antus, son of Hippodamia, turned into a bird
  • Trivialis (lat.) common, simple, banal

This wild relative of the familiar white wagtail lives exclusively in forests. It arrives around the end of April, when there is no more snow and many insects have appeared, which it feeds on.

The bird lives mainly in the lower tier of the forest, but in the spring during the mating season, males sit on tree branches and sing songs, now and then sometimes flying up and smoothly descending down, demonstrating themselves. The rest of the time, the bird walks on the ground in search of food, and on the ground it is quite difficult to see it if it freezes and stops. Only its movement allows you to notice it and watch how it slowly walks and sometimes sways its tail like a white wagtail.

How are you, dear friend @ratel, good morning
What a beautiful and unusual bird.
I loved the video
Have a happy start to the week

Nice markings on the pipit, walks very much like the wagtail collecting food on the floor.

Thanks for the comment, yes, they are related.

Smaller birds with similarities makes it difficult to always identify first time round.

What a lovely little bird!
