🦉 The common sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos)

  • Actitis (Greek) - inhabitant of the coast
  • hypoleucos (Greek): - whitish

This short-legged sandpiper is about the size of a pigeon or starling. You can see them on the banks of rivers. However, several times I met these guys in the steppes, where they walked along the banks of flooded meadows, apparently they were on the fly.

Getting close to them is a big problem, because they are very cowardly and as soon as they see your movement they immediately fly away. But that day I was lucky. I was hiding behind the bushes and thickets near the shore.
This friend ran along the shore, then flew to the other side, and swam on pieces of wood floating along the river.
