🦉 The tree pipit (Anthus trivialis)
- Anthus (ancient Greek mythology) Antus, son of Hippodamia, turned into a bird
- Trivialis (lat.) common, simple, banal
These birds arrive in the middle of spring, when the snow has already melted, but the weather is still unstable, this is approximately the end of April. They prefer to live on the edges of forests, but also inhabit sparse mixed forests with grassy cover. These are the places in the forest I go to.
In spring, you can hear the mating songs of males, which they sing sitting on a branch, sometimes flying up and smoothly descending, demonstrating themselves. The search for food occurs on the ground, as well as the construction of a nest. In principle, these birds spend most of their time "on foot", which is not surprising, because they are wagtails, but forest ones.
