🦉 The Oriental turtle dove or rufous turtle dove (Streptopelia orientalis)
- Streptopelia Greek: streptos necklace, collar, peleia turtle dove
- orientalis eastern
This bird species was listed in the regional Red Book as a very rare species three years ago. And indeed, I have only encountered this bird three times. And this was in the old cemetery in the summer, in the spring in a dense mixed forest, and again in the spring near the shore in the forest.
These birds feed on everything they find on the ground. These are seeds, berries, insects, snails of all kinds. In general, their behavior is similar to the city pigeon we are used to, but in the wild.
