Happy New Week my fellow needleworker. Hope your week is going productive. I’d love to share an outfit I made for church recently. I always love to wear modest dresses to church, it makes me more comfortable and elegant. Being comfortable and simple has been my motto whenever I make clothes for myself.
Initially, I had a style in mind to sew with this particular fabric but I had limited time to make the dress so I opted for some simple and easy-to-make design.
The style is inspired by a post I saw on Instagram. The fabric used in making the dress is cotton fabric but my fabric is a little stiff so it makes my dress look different from the reference but it is still pretty though.
The fabric used was an old fabric I have at home, I don't know the name but it looks like shirt material and it has a lighter feel and texture. I got the fabric a long time ago for #500 per yard which is less than $1 and the most amazing part is that the dress is worth more than the cost many times in value and satisfaction
Materials used are; 3 yards of fabric, lining, thread, and zip
MY PROCESS
I fold the fabric into two, outline my front and back bodies patterns and cut. I cut their lining as well
I cut the bottom pattern(skirt) and the lining as well.
I made a six inches darts on the waistline of the bodies and skirt
I sew each pattern with their respective lining
I sew the bodies pattern together
and the skirt too
Then I sew the waistline together
I cut the gathered part of the dress.
I sew two-step sleeves to the armhole and I sew the gathered fabric to the dress. I also sew a zip to the back dress.
Here is the final look on me, I hope you like it :)
