How I Celebrate Children's Day #195

Children’s Day is one of the most remarkable events for kids. It is a time when love and fun are shared among them, reminding me of the saying, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."

You can't help it; kids just need to play and have fun. In fact, the last Children's Day in Nigeria, which took place in May, was a perfect example of this.

On that special day, I make sure we either visit the park to see animals, visit a friend, or spend it at home.

This decision is highly dependent on the amount of money we have allocated for the day. I also spend Children's Day with my kids, so whatever they get or do for fun, I request my share too, convincing them that I was also a kid once.

I do this because my kids value their privacy a lot. If I try to stay close to them during their fun time, they will often ask me if I can allow them to have their privacy because I do it to them too when I am with my Husband especially if it involves matters that should be discussed secret.

Kids can be highly unpredictable. They love their mom, and I love them too, but when it’s time for their activities, my daughter will boldly tell me to excuse them. And you just have to respect that. Sometimes, I like to listen to their conversations and keep a recorder nearby so I can guide them when they make mistakes.

To every parent and even singles in the community, kindly plan for your kids' entertainment. It helps them retain memories and think outside the box.

As a mom, it's good to have side jobs that can provide you with income, so you can help your husband sponsor Children's Day activities. I know there have been times when I asked my husband for money for our kids' birthday celebrations, and he either offered what was available or said it wasn’t the right time. When you are working, you will be able to support these events. It's very important to always organize something special for them.

What I don't tolerate on that day:

Rough Playing: On Children's Day, the kids often want to engage in all kinds of imaginative play. If I am taking them out, I monitor them closely.

Before we leave, I inform them that there will be no privacy today, I will be in charge. For every gift, I will collect my portion too. This is based on their agreement before we leave home for fun; otherwise, we all celebrate at home.

Unnecessary Adventure: Kids love to explore, and on this special day, they might want to visit friends who live far away or undertake risky adventures, like going to the stream without a life jacket. If your child is the adventurous type, be extra cautious about how they spend their day.

Thank you so much for reading about how I spend Children's Day with my kids. Have a lovely day ahead.

And I am making up for lost time by becoming engaged in my two young adult boys in their online adventure games. They love it now that I am involved.
