I have heard this somewhere: if shopping doesn't make you happy, you are in the wrong shop. In my case, I was probably in the wrong marketplace!

Dhaka New Market is one of the oldest markets in Bangladesh. It was established in 1954, even before the separation of Bangladesh. It was new at that time and got the name. But now it has become one of the traditional marketplaces where you will find each and every product.

But if you are looking for high-end products then maybe this place is not for you.

To be honest, I have not visited this place in a couple of years and had no idea I wouldn't find what I was looking for.

This market is so huge, even if you are a regular shopper you will not be able to go to every corner. So I'm guessing, my desired products are out there somewhere but I couldn't find them.

Another thing is, you have to be an expert in negotiation to be able to make a good deal on your shopping. Otherwise, you will be ripped off for sure.

I have been doing online shopping for very long. One of the main reasons is, I don't have to negotiate and see as many products as I want without interrupting anyone. So when it comes to negotiation, I would have to agree, I almost lost the skill.

And the price range varies so much, the shopkeepers will ask 3-4 times the original price so you will not be able to guess correctly what price you need to offer. That's a huge hassle!

Love seeing the colors.

I was looking for some curtain and home decor products for my new place. I looked online and their collection was good, thought that I would get the same in New Market. But I was wrong.

Later I bought a kid's watch, a water bottle, some safety pins for my hijab, and some other small stuff.

And then comes the worst food experience. Not to mention, this whole area doesn't have any decent restaurants where you can take lunch or have a good meal. It's their cheap manipulation tactics so they can sell the not-so-good food to the customers at a high price.

I went to such a restaurant to have lunch but their menu was not satisfactory. And when the food arrived my appetite was already gone.

The chicken was not fresh at all, the roti was chewy; I couldn't eat much and had to leave for my home.

Dhaka New Market is best for wholesalers, they can find products at a cheap rate. Also, this place offers every kind of product so if you go there you don't have to worry about going to other places. But I would suggest you carry some food and drinks with you, don't bring your,r child, and don't look for high-end products. And you will enjoy shopping there.

This is my honest review, I'm not intended to hurt anyone.

Have a good MarketFriday, everyone.

Lots of accessories. Are the gold bracelets genuine?

Nope, they are not gold. If they were gold, they wouldn't sell it in the open street like that. lol

But sometimes buying the picture is different from the actual one online hehe. Nice new market. Have a pleasant day!

I agree. I only buy from trusted shops and see videos of the products and the rating.
And my online shopping experience is good by far. :)
Thanks.

a great place. when I saw the market, everything was almost the same as the market in our place.

I know, Asian markets are similar.

yes.. but it's fun to market in Asia.. later if you have time go occasionally to the market in aceh province. we all go to Sabang.

Maybe some day 😊

good friends .. prayer and effort will do it.

It's very hard to negotiate with them :-)

BTW, it's a good place for those people who knows the product's actual price. But this place is too much crowded.

That's my point. If they can guess, the person is new in the city or in the market, they will try to rip off. That pisses me off.

Oh my, I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience on your shopping day! Haggling, not finding what you want, and eating bad food all in one outing... terrible.

I hope your next shopping experience is much nicer.

It felt unaccomplished and I was so frustrated at the end of the day. I hope the same, the shopping day will be great.
Thanks :)

I never heard about it but today I read and I think it's a logical statement.

Another thing is, you have to be an expert in negotiation to be able to make a good deal on your shopping.

In Bangladesh negotiation skill requirement if you want to buy things at a cheaper price. Still, now I have the skill and but for it, I need to be updated on the actual price of the product which I try to buy.

At last hope, you enjoyed the food well.

Yeah, getting to know the actual price of each and every product and winning after a great negotiation is not always hassle-free. And there's a high chance that we end up giving more.

The food of newmarket is the worst I have very tried by far. :/

Thanks for sharing this. It's my first time knowing what Bangladesh market look like. Anyway, your market place looks nice though it somewhat like Philippines as well.

Asian markets are kind of similar.
Have a good day over there.

Well, that would tick me off a little bit. There is nothing worse than knowing you are being ripped off, it makes me even madder when I am visiting and they know it still (especially try hard) to take advantage of my ignorance. Is that right? Is it okay to do?

Hell no. I will pay the price, but, don't try to take advantage of me. I am so sorry that your experience was terrible this day, but, tomorrow may be better. However, the bad food will stay with me forever. Don't bring kids!!! Ever!!! You are right!

Thanks for taking us along! The market is still cool looking! :)

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

#MarketFriday loves you!

The sad part is that I have been to this market many times. But it seems like they have fallen out of the competitive market and now can serve only specific customers, not everyone. At least that's what I have experienced which it was not used to before.

Honestly, I would rather pay a little more in other places than be ripped off by them.

Thanks for your understanding. Have a good day.
