HELLO, SPLINTERLANDS COMMUNITY! ITS TIME FOR SOME BATTLE FEATURES!
It's been a long time since I created a battle feature. But today, it's time to get back on track. In Splinterlands, Neutral Unit is one of the most reliable units in any battle because they have a variety of monsters that can withstand the power of other cards. In the Neutral Unit, there are magic attackers, range attackers, and the most famous of all, the melee attackers. One of the melee attackers in Neutral Unit is the Legionnaire Alvar. This monster is not one of the starter cards and that is the reason why this monster is not "that popular".
As this content goes, we will know more about Legionnaire Alvar and how to use it in battles. So what are we waiting for, let's go do the battle feature!
THE LORE
The Chaos Legionnaires are ruthless warriors and the Chaos Legion's elite fighting force. Alvar Veralyn was conscripted into their ranks at a young age after his family was slain and his world conquered by the Chaos Legion. The harsh conditioning that all conscripts receive nearly broke the child, but in the end, his old, easy way of life was subsumed by the desire for battle and conquest. Alvar dedicated himself to his training, intent on reshaping his mind and his body until he had no equal on the battlefield. Eventually, he rose to the rank of General and now stands as leader of the Chaos Legionnaires.
Alvar is a most imposing sight on the battlefield. His armor is imbued to withstand the strongest of magical attacks, and even the mightiest of foes is no match for his massive, two-handed sword, which some say was forged in the Realm of Nightmare. He lives for battle, wading through his enemies and striking them down as he seeks out the strongest among them to engage in single combat. He enjoys nothing more than watching the life fade from his opponent's eyes. His conquests are legendary even among the Legionnaires, and he earned the title of Godkiller after the Battle of Dargnilat, during which he single-handedly defeated one of the Old Gods.
“Do you wish to serve?”
Alvar Veralyn glared at the two prisoners kneeling before him, a dwarf and an elf. His plate armor gleamed beneath the harsh glare of the sun, and his massive sword ran red with blood. His Chaos Legionnaires stood in a rough circle around their general and the prisoners. The corpses of the fallen littered the plains of the battlefield.
The dwarf raised her chin defiantly. “No, I would rather—”
Alvar swung his sword. The dwarf's head hit the dirt, and the elf let out a little shriek as the lifeless body fell forward with a thump.
Alvar turned to the elf. “Do you wish to serve?”
*“Yes.” the elf said at once, then louder, “Yes!”
Alvar gave a nod, and his Chaos Legionnaires grabbed the elf by the arms, hauled him to his feet, and led him away to begin his conditioning and his training.
CARD POWER
LEGIONNAIRE ALVAR is a Legendary Neutral Monster with Void Armor ability. Monster with this kind of ability makes the magic attacks of their opponent hits the shield first before reducing the target's life. This monster has two (2) melee attacks, two (2) speed, eight (8) shields, and six (6) lives at Level 1. By evaluating its overall abilities, we can say that this monster is a strong tank against magic attackers. Its shields and life could go a very long way in the battle. In terms of offense, we can say that it has an average attack. It is only average because if ever this monster encounters a monster with shield ability, then its damage ability will reduce to one (1) and that is alarming. On the other hand, it still has the potential to be stronger in offense by leveling up this monster or by using a Summoner that can elevate its attack. In terms of speed, this monster is not that really reliable on evading attacks because it only has two (2) speed, which means it has a 10% chance of avoiding the attacks of the opponent's monster. Also, by looking at the mana that this monster needs, which is nine (9) mana, we can say that we cannot use it on low mana battles. With that, overall, we can conclude that this monster is strong on defense but needs more assistance and improvement in terms of offense.
LEVELED UP POWER
As this monster continues to level up, it gains new abilities. Here are the abilities that this monster can gain:
THE LINEUP
STRATEGY: Build a strong tank defense at first position and let the other position monsters to make the attacks.
MANA: 28 Mana Fight
RULESET: No Standard
TARSA. This summoner can provide additional melee attacks and life to all friendly monsters. It is the perfect summoner for Legionnaire Alvar since it needs to improve its offense.
LEGIONNAIRE ALVAR. This monster is a good choice because at any kind of attack, surely, its shield will be the first to take damage, due to its ability.
MAGMA TROLL. This fire monster has the ability to attack if it is placed in the second position. It is a good pair for Legionnaire Alvar since it needs assistance when it comes to offense.
CALADUUM. This monster is a Legendary Fire Monster with magic attacks. It is one of the perfect companions of Legionnaire Alvar since the strength of this monster is on its offense. A three magic attack can do a lot of damage to an opponent's monster.
SCORH FIEND. This monster has zero mana and low stats but its contribution to the game is very important. This monster is a decoy. Its main function is to be the target of monsters with Opportunity ability so that other monsters will be protected. It is the perfect companion of Legionnaire Alvar since it somehow lessens the damages it will take.
BATTLE SUMMARY

At the beginning of the battle, all friendly monsters were given an additional melee attack and life. Legionnaire Alvar now has three (3) melee attacks making it more powerful when it attacks the tank of my opponent. Exchange of attacks happened. Legionnaire Alvar took all the melee and magic attacks. Thanks to its ability, Shield is the first one that took the damage. The battle lasted until Round 14 and Caladuum is the only monster left on the field. For Legionnaire Alvar, due to strong attacks of the opponent, it only lasted up to Round 4.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
Overall, the battle is successful and Legionnaire Alvar satisfies its role. The strategy also works but my expectation with Legionnaire Alvar was not satisfied. I expected this monster to last until the end of the round but it got killed at Round 4. I notice that the lacking thing in my strategy is that I did not elevate the speed of Legionnaire Alvar. I do believe that if I somehow increase its speed, its attacking order will be earlier and it will have a higher chance of evading melee attacks.
Even though I notice something that lacks my strategy, still, we cannot deny how powerful this monster is. That is the reason why I would love to use this monster on my future battles (ehmm... sponsorship 😆). Kidding aside, this monster has really strong features that is why it is definitely a threat on the field if it was used right.
