Rise of the Pixels is two weeks old. It’s been an exciting ride so far, with over a third of our 8-bit packs sold already. We held a few contests, we’re making tons of small and medium sized adjustments as we monitor the economy, and are excited for what’s to come.
We will publish general ‘recap & update’ posts periodically from now on, to help keep everyone up to date with changes and upcoming news. You can also get a summary of changes in the new #changelog
channel in our Discord.
🚀 Launch recap
As mentioned, lots has happened in two weeks.
- 🎁 We held two major raffles and leaderboard contests, with over 2,000 $HIVE worth of prizes. Winner announcements are here and here.
- Sold over 10,000 of our 8-bit packs to date!
- Updated the in-game ‘market trend’ system to last longer and be more generous (you can hit 1 or 2 of 3 conditions and still get partial bonus).
- Tons of UI fixes and improvements
- ℹ️ Major update: introduction of ‘starter pools’ (more details below)
ℹ️ Major update: starter pools for a better early game
Since we obscured the true algorithm during beta, it was only during the live release that we noticed some Players struggling when using Common workers. Players who bought only a few packs (or had bad rolls on more packs) were stuck with Commons, and those Commons were not producing good enough games to compete with people using Epics and better.
The result was game after game that had a net loss in $PXL or PXL Coin. Not an ideal start for someone coming in fresh and testing the waters! 😬
So we quickly made some adjustments and will continue to monitor the situation. We do not want Rise of the Pixels to be a Whales Only club. Those adjustments are currently:
- We opened a Discord channel called
#rewards-and-economy
to get community feedback, which has been immensely helpful (thank you all for your input!) - Creation of special reward pools that only new Players can access, so that they are not competing with larger, more powerful studios. Rulebook to be updated soon with these conditions.
- Rework of how all the pools are ‘fed’ to rebalance things
- In-game warnings that prompt new players to use longer development times in their games to avoid very low scores
- There’s a rumour that senior executives from The Organization’s Pixelian Economic Oversight Committee have also noticed the issue and are formulating a response. Stay tuned…
Over the next few weeks, we will keep monitoring the progress of smaller studios to see if these updates have helped to blunt the poor “loss after loss” experience. The team is committed to making sure the game is fun for everyone, no matter how many packs you buy!
Upcoming feature teasers
You can always visit the Roadmap in the Rulebook to get a broad sense of what’s next for Rise of the Pixels… but here’s a quick teaser of some things on our mind:
- One last raffle—a new kind of openable item is on its way… 💼
- Factions. (But not Guilds.)
- Project cancellations.
- Another leaderboard event…? 😎
That is all for now. Thank you to everyone who participated in our Launch Events—this is just the beginning of our adventures within the Pixelverse.
