A Look Inside My Personal Space With the Ladies

in #silverbloggers3 years ago

Oh dear, I'm very late with this one, dear Ladies of HIVE! I had this big issue with having to present a SELFIE of myself with my fridge and wardrobe, had a hissy fit about it, decided not to post, then read that wasn't an ACTUAL requirement, slapped myself in the face and got on with it in the spirit of things, because the ladies of HIVE do a freakin' amazing job of giving us writing prompts and connecting us to community, so why wouldn't I join in?

Plus, after 12 years in this house, I actually have an organised wardrobe. Since we decided to sell, we thought an organised cupboard would present well. I wish we'd taken a before shot - it was a horror show. But you might know my husband - he's very handy, and kept promising to get some MDF and make me a wardrobe to fit everything nicely - except never did, because - well, other DIY.

So, before BTC dropped any further, I thought 'f*k it', and went to Bunnings to get myself a flat pack wardrobe - the two cupboards with drawers are what I ended up with, and the board across the top we had already. Add a couple of rails and voila - space organised. Honestly, it's amazing how much I can fit in and still have room. We did throw away an awful lot in the spirit of minimalism, too. I tell you what, this wardrobe now brings me joy. Since doing it, we've also added shoe rack. How does the centre aisle at Aldi always know exactly wha you need?

Favourite three items? Ugh, I'm not really a clothes person. I tend to wear a lot of hippie pants, unless I"m at work. I'm trying to wear more dresses, because my hubs likes it. He loves me anyway, but it's nice to dress up for the one you love. I bought this dress in Cygnet whilst on holidays in Tasmania. I like the print and it's comfy to wear. Can I make my other two items hippy pants?

On to the fridge now - hey, there's a selfie! My reflection! You can almost see my entire house. The little room behind it is a laundry come butler's pantry - my house is kinda small so the kettle can make it's noise in there without disturbing us.

Anyway, thanks for making me clean out my fridge, ladies of HIVE! Look closely and you'll see all sorts of very particular things in there. A box of mushroom spawn. A Korean chilli paste. Preserved lemons. Coconut yoghurt. Homemade lime pickle. White butter bean vegan mayoinnaise. A really, really big ass zucchini. Lots of homemade cold teas and brews (it's summer). And look at that big jar of fire cider on top. I really must remove that container of crackers next to the pestle and mortar - what a mess. The shame of airing your cupboards and fridges on HIVE!

But three items which we can't do without?

  1. Vegemite. There's a bit of a debate in Australia whether you keep it in the fridge or not. The answer is - that's a stupid thing to do. But my husband keeps it there, so what am I going to do? Honestly. Men. But he can't live without vegemite toast in the morning.

  2. Garlic fermented in honey It's here to stop it fermenting further, but also because the ants love it. This is the BEST thing ever - it goes on salads a lot, but also I drink it neat whenever I'm a bit asthmatic or have a sore throat - and it seems to help. A lot. Simply fill a jar half full with garlic cloves, top with raw honey, let fizz for about a week on the counter top, burping daily, then let mellow in the fridge for a few months. The cloves themselves are like garlicky sweets after this time. Do it. You won't be disappointed.

  3. Jalepenos. I am an addict. Okay, they should be in the cupboard, but we don't have a huge amount of cupboard space, and I like them in the fridge with the gherkins and random condiments. With news of supply chain issues, I made sure I bought ten jars. I don't want to run out. Ever. I'd buy jalapenos for the zombie apocalypse.

It goes without saying that a LOT of vegetables are in my 'essentials' list - that's just a given. A lot of those are coming out of my garden right now and don't even make it to the fridge - I love picking fresh produce from the garden!

I hope you enjoyed this little look into my personal life, ladies! Now my mess is forever on the blockchain!

With Love,

Have a great weekend

Thanks so much .... Anything for the LOH!

Vegemite..The one thing you will never find in europe but always in Aussie hahahahahha

You house looks organized madame and a lot! When is the exit date on the house (it is sold already right?) and still have some time to enjoy there.

I loved the challenge as well, but same thing here actually making pictures of my fridge and closet is a bit too much for what a bomb lives inside there

Hahaha yes I have to tidy at least a bit for HIVE.. just happened to catch me as I had reorganized some space!!

Nooo not sold. Didn't put on market. Dad is ill and we haven't found what we like in Tassie and market is hard. If we lose this place might be hard to get back in. We might just rent out and go travelling for a bit instead.

It's a simple place, and I wouldn't want it otherwise - that means I'd be living beyond my means! Thanks so much for the pizza x

I love your style and you're welcome 😊

Haha, I read this challenge and also decided not to join because of the selfies 🙂 But also, I don't even have a wardrobe (kind of) and my fridge is very uninspiring.

It looks perfectly organized, your wardrobe. I like wearing dresses but I rarely dress up these days...I hope to change that actually.

And thank you for the tip about garlic fermented in honey, I hadn't heard about that before.

xx

I nearly didn't join in, but I'd just tidied the warddrobe and did it up, coincidentally!!!!

I stopped dressing up but my husbands like, what's the point of having it there if you're not wearing it? Good point!

Oh the honey is AMAAAAZING

My first thought: you have so many clothes! And you said you'd thinned them. 2nd thought: That fridge is so small! LOL My closet is pretty empty compared to yours and I have 1 dresser with 4 drawers. They are all full, but not as much room as your new ones.

Having a big fridge when there was 3 of us was important. We were always running out of room and having to try to cram stuff into the old one in the cellar. That one was to come upstairs to be the eggs and milk fridge in the clean room. Well that's all changed now, but there's a fridge in the anyways. So I have 2, for all the food and seeds and stuff.

I guess I make up in fridges for the lack of clothes.

Hahahyes you do!! I need work clothes for teaching as well as casual clothes and gardening clothes!! Also I live in a place with four bloody seasons in a day and twenty seasons in a year lol...

There's only two of us... So we don't need a huge fridge.

There were 3 of us and we raised most of our own food. Now there's 2 and I'm not raising animals. But I still have all the fridges and freezers....

Maybe you could sell some? Are they being used?

I haven't been able to sort that out yet. My husband's rod shop is being stored where they all go. I actually just found someone interested in buying it and they come look on Monday. Once I have that out of there, I can finish the space and move freezers and fridges. To do this means emptying them temporarily and re-organizing. I'll know then. So it's a LONG ways down the road.
