Why The Month of August was really Special

Hello Naija. This is my entry for this week's prompt:

In each month, there is usually a highlight, or maybe the month was uneventful. Share with us which of the past months from January till now had the most significant experience for you, whether good or bad, and how it affected you.

It has been a wonderful year so far, I must say. They've been good times, and I won't deny the fact that there have also been tough times as well. As much as I had quite a number of wonderful events and experiences, there was quite an exceptional event that I happened to witness this year. And this was in the month August. My one and only sister departed from the singlehood—that means she got married.

It was quite an exciting and emotional experience for me. Exciting in the sense that she's now someone's wife. From Miss Ekeh Precious—which was her name previously—to now Mrs. Okon Precious. I've heard people answer the name "in-law," and today, I'm been addressed in that manner also. It feels kind of good to be called that, I must say. I'm really happy for her because God gave her a good husband, which not many wives are lucky of getting these days.

This event also made me emotional, like I said, because. And this is because she is my only sister. She's been like my best friend since as long as I remember. People normally say that the bond between sisters is really strong. I may not be able to generalize this statement for every sister because I don't know what their relationship is like. But speaking for myself, I can attest to this being quite true.

To be honest, part of me wanted her to stay back—to stay with me—but I guess it was time to move into a new phase in her life. Who was I going to have those girl-talk conversations with? Although I have three other siblings, and I love them with all my heart, they are all boys. They can't possibly connect with me like my sister did. All that time she and attention she gave me when we still stayed under the same roof now belonged to her husband.

But this doesn't change the fact that I cannot be any less happy for her. I've been to many weddings in my life, right from when I was still a kid. It felt really good attending that of my sister, the first wedding among my siblings. Apart from the family I had, to which blood is the means by which we relate, I now have another family by the means of my sister's marriage.

It's quite amazing how different families from different backgrounds and even ethnicities can be brought together through marriage. I can only say a few words how this impacted my life; I'm sure my mom and dad would have a thousand words to say if they were to express themselves.

On the day of the wedding, when my dad was handing my sister to her husband, being the father I have known from my childhood, that was the day I realized that he could be emotional. Seeing him in that state also made me emotional as well.

The day of the wedding was quite a colorful day. The turnout was a lot more than expected. I got to see a lot of faces that I hadn't seen in a very long time; I even had difficulty recalling the faces of some. The month of August 2024 was indeed a remarkable month.
I specially appreciate @hive-naija for giving me the platform to share wonderful experience.
