Chojnik Castle in the Giant Mountains

in #hive-1637722 years ago

Hello everyone!

Probably most people who go to Szklarska Poreba or Karpacz for a few days will visit one of the most famous tourist attractions in this area, which is Chojnik Castle. Although these are more of a castle ruin. During my trip to the Karkonosze Mountains, I also took the opportunity to go up the mountain where it is located.

Witam wszystkich

The castle was erected on top of the Chojnik mountain and this is how it looks from the outside.

In front of the entrance there are drawings of the castle in which we can see what it looked like in the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries.

On one of the walls there is a place dedicated to Pope John Paul II, created in 2007.

After reaching the top of the tower, you can enjoy beautiful views from above.

You can also see how nature takes over the castle from above.

Z góry widać też jak natura przejmuje zamek.

Below is a translation of the text about the history of the castle from the photo above.

Chojnik Castle was built in the years 1353-1364 by Bolek II, the Duke of Świdnica-Jaworski. After the death of Bolko II in 1368, his wife, Duchess Agnieszka, settled in the castle the knight of her court, Schoff II, called Gotsche.
From the end of the 14th century, Chojnik was ruled by the mighty Schaffgotsch family and their foundation is the castle chapel. The castle was expanded in the 15th century. The round hunger tower, the outer walls, the lower courtyard and the pillory come from this period.
In the 16th century, a great bastion was built from the north-west. Economic courtyard. In 1648, a polygonal bastion and attics on the walls are probably erected. In 1675, the castle was destroyed by a lightning bolt, and since then it has become a tourist object.
