Hello everyone, Welcome to my Splinterlands Social Media Challenge post. In this post, I will talk about Riftwing card, and more, as well as an amazing battle. I hope it will be useful for you.
Riftwing has no attack power but has the Flying Ability and the Scavenger Ability at level 1, the Backfire Ability at level 5, and the Headwinds Ability at level 8. Riftwing is a Common card in the Death Unit from the Chaos Legion edition and it costs 4 mana.
- Flying Ability : +25% chance to evade physical attacks. No effect if the attacker also has Flying. Immune to Earthquake.
- Scavenger Ability : +1 health and max health each time any unit is defeated.
- Backfire Ability : When an enemy unit misses, deals 2 physical damage to them.
- Headwinds Ability : -1 ranged power to all enemy units.
Lore
Riftwings are drawn to splinters and rifts. They feed off their energy and grow larger the closer they live to a portal. The Chaos Legion uses them as a means to locate rifts. In war, they are utilized as scouts, providing valuable information and as a way to harass/distract enemy forces, thereby slowing them down.
The sky over the battlefield was suddenly filled with an onslaught of arrows. Armored archers fired all at once, aiming for the creatures in the sky. The Riftwings of the Chaos Legion.
But as the arrows neared their targets, the Riftwings flapped their wings rapidly. A surge of wind kicked up, sending the arrows wide. Several of the weapons spun out of control, impaling the archers on the ground. Killed by their own attacks.
The screams began as the Riftwings dove down, following the path of the arrows. Descending on the corpses, it was a feast of blood and flesh.
Even though Riftwing doesn't have any attack power, it can be very effective in battles with its abilities and I can say that it is one of my favorite cards. I would like to say that it can be much more effective when used with a good strategy.
Riftwing has a chance to evade physical attacks thanks to its Flying Ability, and also punishes those who miss with 2 physical damage thanks to its backfire ability. Additionally, thanks to its Scavenger Ability, it gains +1 health whenever any Unit is defeated in battle. And with its Headwinds ability, it reduces the ranged attack of all enemy units by -1. Riftwing has 4 really cool abilities.
Although Riftwings does not have any attack power, we can make it much more useful in battles by giving it attack power with the Weapons Training Ability. Honestly, I would like to say that after the Weapons Training Ability was added to Splinterlands, Riftwing became one of my favorite cards because it can be more effective in battles when it has attack power. In short, when I add Riftwings to my team, I definitely include the Weapons Training Ability in my lineup and put it adjacent it. I even include 2 Weapons Training in my lineup when I have the chance so it can have 2 different attack powers. so I can give it 2 types of attack power. By the way, the Weapons Training gives attack type and power to adjacent no-attack units (max of 3 power), so it's very important to adjust your lineup accordingly. Additionally, with the Weapons Training Ability can give attack power to 2 Units that do not have attack power, we will see an example in the battle below.
Let's examine some of what I said above in the following battle.
- Blood and Sunder: All units have Corrosive Ward (-2 to attacker’s armor and maximum armor when hit by a melee attack).
- Healed Out: Units and summoners lose all abilities that restore health.
- Super Sneak: All melee units have Sneak (targets the enemy unit in the last position).
Before starting the battle, when I reviewed the recent 5 battles of the opposing player, I saw that they had very powerful cards and I knew that the battle would be very difficult for me, so I needed a better strategy.
Actually, I really like the Super Sneak ruleset, but I had little chance of winning this battle with melee units, so I decided to use units with magic attacks. However, since I knew that the opposing team would have melee attackers, I put Cursed Windeku with the Thorns Ability in the last position. I put Will-o-Wisp in the first position and Riftwing in the third position and neither of them had any attack power so I put Skok Duskblight with the Weapons Training Ability in the second position so they both have 2 magic attacks. I also know that armor will be very useful in a battle like this, so I included the Protect Ability in my lineup so that all friendly units have +2 armor.
Round 1
I was able to guess the opposing player's strategy pretty well, but the opposing team was still much more powerful, and to be honest, when I saw the opposing team, I thought I had lost the battle. However, I had Riftwing on my team so I still had some hope of winning.
In the first round, although the Thorns Ability was quite useful, the enemy team's attacks were much more effective and 3 units from my team were destroyed in the first round.
Round 2
Things didn't go well for my team in the first round, but in the second round, Riftwing's incredible performance turned the tide of the battle. Riftwing was able to evade 2 out of 3 attacks from the enemies and dealt 2 physical damage to Radiated Brute and Tenyii Striker when they missed. Most interestingly, Radiated Brute missed Riftwing even though it had 11 speed, which was truly incredible. And thus the Radiated Brute was destroyed.
Round 3
In the third round, Riftwing managed to evade Tenyii Striker's attack and destroyed it as well. Riftwing really showed an amazing performance in this battle and literally gifted me a battle that I would have lost.
The battle only lasted 3 rounds and my team managed to win the battle against a pretty powerful team. Honestly I still can't believe I won this battle, Riftwing did a really great job and that's exactly why it's one of my favorite cards. Honestly, luck was on my team's side in the battle, but having a card like Riftwing always keeps my hopes of winning alive, and that's what happened in this battle. I recommend using Riftwing and the Weapons Training Ability together, as seen in the battle above, it can be quite useful.
