“Fatimah!”I called out to my cousin as soon as I got home. I knew immediately after opening the door to my room that something had definitely happened in there.

My fear was confirmed when I saw the shelf where I always keep my books is a little bit disorganized. Without being told, I knew Fatimah had invaded my private space.

“Fatimah!!”, I called again but didn't get any response. She came to visit me about a week ago and as much as we love each other, I know she is a troublemaker

“Where is it?”, I asked, barging into her room without knocking. She removed the headphones from her ears, a testament to the reason why she didn't hear me shouting out her name previously.

“Where is it?”, I asked again, with my arms akimbo. “Where is what?”, she asked, trying to feign ignorance. I know her very well and I knew she knew very well what I was asking from her.

“Don't even try, where is my diary?”, I asked slightly, raising my voice.

She smirked, giving me the “what did we carry, what did we throw, look”. When she saw that I wasn't playing around, she removed it from under the pillow where she hid it and handed it over to me.

“It's not a good thing to invade someone's privacy, you know”. I said as I yanked the book off her hands.

“See this auntie o, you are still keeping a diary as old as you are. What are you? 12?, she asked while I hissed.

“Well, don't leave it where I could see it”, She said amusingly. I scowled at her, irritated from the half smile pasted on her face.

I know I can't stay mad at her, so there was no point in trying. “Whatever”, I scoffed as I turned to leave her room.

“ I hope Santa grants your wishes though”, she called out, causing me to open my mouth in shock.

“You read my diary?”, I asked, unbelievably.

“Well you shouldn't have left your pen inside the diary. I was actually looking for a pen and I went to your room to find one and I saw it in the middle of the book. I only wanted to take the pen but the title at the top of your writing caught my attention”.

      “Santa, Please Help!”.

“I couldn't resist as my curiosity got the best of me”, she explained.

“Well, as you have read yourself. Most if not all of us need Santa to come through for us and grant us our wishes”, I said as I sat down beside her.

“Dear readers…Are You Also Curious About What I Wished For?”

Some days when I wake up and check the list of what I planned to do for the day, I would wonder if 24 hours is enough to get them done and that is not adding the few breaks I would take in between these tasks.

I must confess that It's not easy working almost round the clock and coupled with having to take care of the home, cook, clean and do other things. Sometimes the stress alone barely leaves little to no time for me to enjoy the things I love doing.

This is one of the reasons why I would love anything that will reduce or take away stress from my life.

As for my wish for Santa, I did have a lot of things to wish for but two most important things that will help me reduce stress are a washing machine and a refrigerator.

Sometimes, washing clothes doesn't come easy for me, especially after having a stressful day at work and if I leave them till weekends, the heaps alone is enough to make me feel stressed.

“Why do I need a refrigerator?”

Well, I'm glad you asked. I need the refrigerator mostly to be able to buy foodstuffs in bulk and preserve them. With the way the prices of foodstuffs increase almost everyday, it's best to buy things in bulk in order to save cost.

“But you do know Santa Claus isn't real right? We only watch it in movies, you more than others I bet”, Fatimah said, interrupting me.

“Don't say that, I believe Santa Claus is real and he would grant my….”

“Auntie, if you need all those things badly, you better start saving some money and get them yourself, instead of waiting on Santa Claus to get them for you”, she said bluntly. “Especially in this T-pain economy, where most people are just trying to survive? Ha! Goodluck with that.”

I just gave her the bombastic side eye as I stood up. “It's not your fault, it's me that decided to sit down here and chat with you”.

As I walked back to my room, I pondered on her words. “She is right, isn't she? Am I going to wake up on Christmas Day to find these two things at my doorstep?”

I probably should start helping myself by saving towards those things I need like Fatimah suggested or should I wait to see if Santa will grants my wishes? It's almost Christmas after all.

Well, I guess I would have to wait and see.

It's quite had to admit the fact that Santa ain't real.

That's true. Thank you for reading.

The earlier we realise Santa isn't real the better for us 😂
