“Let’s all cheer up and have some fun people!” Katie’s voice was as loud as a car horn. Although she had no microphone but her voice was distinct enough to be heard from a long distance.
As Daniel looked around and saw his friend’s reactions, he was surprised they could be that lively at his party.
It wasn’t the first time he would try to arrange a get together and no one would be interested and those who came would not hide their disinterest.
“Katie, are you sure these guys are not intoxicated or something?” Katie only smiled at Daniel’s question, she knew her boyfriend had never seen his mates that lively all through their undergraduate days. But since she came into his life a lot has changed.
“Hey, we are in our finals we are all gonna miss each other, right?” Katie replied as she giggled like a happy child past Daniel. “Before we all depart, we should at least have wonderful memories together,” she added.
Like a man brought to face reality, Daniel got troubled by Katie’s statement. “Before we depart? Is Katie planning on leaving me?” As Daniel was busy ruminating on his thoughts, he heard his name being chorused by his classmates.
Like a sacred tradition among the college students, the party host must propose a toast at his or her own party.
As Daniel walked towards the stage to speak, he almost ran back because he felt like words were absent in his thoughts. Like a courageous moderator, he stepped on the stage with confidence.
“Don’t give us no advice, we are here to have fun Dan!” Someone screamed among his mates and the rest applauded the motion to show their support, reminding him they were there for no lectures.
“I wasn’t going to give you any motivation friends. In fact, I don’t have any idea of what I am going to say till now and I don’t want us to have anything but fun! Remember this popular game youths nowadays play.
‘We listen, we don’t judge?’ Why don’t we all take rounds y’all!”
As Daniel concluded his statement, like an uproar in an army’s camp, his mates cheered his suggestion and decided to take rounds.
“This is genius,” were the words of Adam, Daniel’s friend. “We might as well know all our secrets before we part ways!” He added.
The whole group of youths were already tipsy but not enough to lose their senses. Sam, one of Daniel’s class mates quickly jumped on the stage. “I’ll go first,” he said.
“You know when the class was locked because y’all couldn’t find the key and everyone had to stay outside including our lecturer? I was the one that took the key because I didn’t want us to have the class!”
As Sam concluded everyone laughed amidst funny remarks. Like a special rendition at an event, they all took rounds and had the fun of their lives before going home that night.
“What made you think about such a game?” Like a sudden jab to the chest, Katie decided to bring up the game idea suggested by Daniel at the party. “You know how many things could have gone wrong, had it been Sam didn’t step in to save the day?”
Like a stranger in the company of a new person, Daniel was wondering if he heard his girlfriend right or he had heard someone else.
“You heard me right Daniel! You know how many secrets could have been spilled right there? And how many people wouldn’t have left as friendly as they came?” She added.
“What secrets exactly, are you hiding anything from me? Or just as I thought you are planning on leaving, because we are done with school?” As Daniel replied with a question, the whole atmosphere was a switch from calm to tense.
“Why would you ever think that I am going to leave you, don’t change the subject here, don’t even try to be defensive.” Like an angry man about to talk rudely, Daniel’s countenance changed towards Katie’s statement.
“Me? Be defensive, have I ever been defensive?” He asked himself and before he could continue with his thoughts, Katie interrupted him.“I am talking to you man! Why would you hold such a thought about me? Oh! The parting party you held was not just for your friends but for us too, right? No problem then.”
As Katie was about leaving angrily, Daniel could allow anything other than having a grudge with his girlfriend, like a man totally immersed in love, he couldn’t do without her but at the moment he wanted to prove a point.
“If you take any step there? There will be problem!” Like adding fuel to fire, Katie got infuriated, “because you are my boyfriend, I won’t have freedom of movement, you know what, you want to leave me right?”
Before Katie could complete her statement, Daniel grabbed her hands and drew her closer giving her a peck on the head. “Okay, I am sorry let us just resolve this, okay?”
The peck was like a calming spell as Katie wasn’t expecting it. “Okay,” she said, still a bit hypnotized by Daniel’s peck. “It wasn’t our parting party darling, our own party is forever,” Daniel said.
