Greetings!
Technology is one of the greatest things that has happened to humanity. Life would have remain static if not for the advent of technology that brought about the advent of gadgets that has really helped humanity in all spheres such gadgets include, the home appliances, machines, phones, internet just to mention but a few. All these things brought into existence by technology have really improved the living standard of all living creatures and at the same time, made life easy.
Though, there are many advantages of all the gadgets being made mentioned of, but that doesn't mean there's no disadvantages to the usage of these appliances or gadgets as it applies to each and everyone of us. Atimes, the disadvantages stem from how these gadgets or appliances are been put in use, this means, in most cases, we tend to misuse these appliances or gadgets and by so doing, it tells on our lives and performances. So, the way we use these gadgets is very important. It may either work for or against us. It all depends.
Like I have said earlier, the usage of these appliances speaks for or against us and for this reason, I will like to say, the usage of this appliances can be a source of distractions to many. Like the phone, the phone is a very gadget but it's now become a source of distractions to many, most especially to the the students, no wonder there's a popular saying that says, " when the use of a thing is not known, then abuse is inevitable." Yes! The way phone is being abused among the students in the schools these days cannot be overemphasized.
Phone which is one of the technological gadgets that has been making life easy right from it advent is a good gadget to behold and not only that, it's one of those gadgets that has helped in connecting people throughout the world and this can be seen in it functions. The phone has many benefits when compared to it disadvantages. Though, it all depends on it usage like I said earlier.
As a teacher, i have been a witness to how students abuse their phones, maybe given to them by their parent, or even bought it with their own money. In my school, I have seen and addressed so many cases on the use of the cell phone in the school. When I got employed as a teacher in the year 2021, I realized that most of the students in my school make use of phone, not openly but secretly and this is because it has been banned and not allowed in the school. But one thing I noticed was that, even with them making use of the phone secretly, they still misuse and mishandle the phone in their hand. Some of them I mean the students while trying to make use of phone in school, they use it wrongly and they do so by watching porn on the phone, some instead of paying attention to the teacher in the classroom opted to listening to music and got distracted, I even have a case on my table where one of our students was videoing the back view of a female teacher with the phone he brought to school, what a misuse of a gadgets of many benefits by the students. Some of them are even fond of watching movie right there in their classroom which is not supposed to be. I have many of their phones with me. Though when seized, there parent will come begging, telling us they took the phone without them knowing, some would even say, they gave them the phone just for communication purpose, but I used to tell them that their wards are not making good use of the phone. Atimes I do sensitize them how how and how not to use a phone.
Also, the use of phones in the school has made most of the students to be lazy in their academic pursuits. Now, most of them cannot write their assignment without the use of phone. Evem, some rely on their phone to write their exams and this is where the problem of this our generation lies now, this is because to think and do things on our own is now too difficult compared to those people of old that carry out researches on their own without relying on any artificial means to carry out their research. I used to wonder how they were able to manage and achieve their feat without the aid of the cell phone. Yes, the call phone is good for learning and I'm not disputing that, but being relying on it 100% will take this our generation nowhere. for instance, some students spend more time on phone rather than facing their learning. Instead of them facing their book, all they do is to Facebook which is not good enough. Hmmm, also, the advent of search engines has really affected most of the students, now, instead of them using their God given brain to solve issues, or problem as being used in the mathematical world they resulted into using the search engines to solve or make research to their problems which is not good enough to this generation where we have too many problems to solve. Now, copying other people work is now the order of the day and this is as a result of how cell phone is being used negatively at school by the students. May God save us.
So, the use of cell phone in the school is a bad omen to the learning system and it's really caused more havoc than doing our learning good and I think, it's high time it's kicked against. So as for us to have a good and improve our educational system.
