Beyond the bamboo platform 🌱

I tried in my last post to describe the incredible beauty of the bamboo forest we recently found at the bottom of our garden and why this place feels so special but only today did i manage to actually finish the platform and snap a few images worthy of your time.

Here is a shot of the recently created stone circle seating area at the edge of the forest, the platform just about visible in the background.

The finished platform seen in all its multicoloured glory here.

Complete with acorn art my family & i created last night.

Should be dry in a few days.
GOPR3666.jpeg

This afternoon we had our 'tea time' here and it all felt so very perfect.

We are getting into mosquito season now so the net will be useful, hanging over the suspended seat which will go here.
GOPR3678.jpeg

The seat should arrive in a few days and i am very excited to sit here in the evenings and meditate under this net with the setting sun on my face.
GOPR3681.jpeg

The children were keen to go down into the forest with me, so off we went.
GOPR3682.jpeg

Evenings are always best for bamboo forest walks due to this incredible lighting.
GOPR3684.jpeg

If you had told me a few months ago there was a jungle at the bottom of my garden which looked like this i wouldn't have believed you.
GOPR3665.jpeg

It is a perfect blend of Asia & Europe.
GOPR3693.jpeg

I knew there was some bamboo growing down here but had no idea there was so much of it or that it would be so beautiful when the summer sun passed to the other side of the valley from us, creating an incomparable lighting effect which submerges the senses in some special way.
GOPR3706.jpeg

I will build a path in here, a circuit to help us get the best out of this forest and walk here daily.
GOPR3687.jpeg

It is very overgrown and not easy to traverse at the moment, completely inaccessible from any other place except our garden.
GOPR3689.jpeg

There is a river down at the bottom which is also totally overgrown and inaccessible. But the sound alone is just fine for now. It won't be inaccessible for long!
GOPR3691.jpeg

This section the children are passing through here i feel sure is a favoured spot of the pigs due to a mystery water source which keeps it constantly moist. It's a pig mud bath/night time beauty spa basically.
GOPR3695.jpeg

Here's that magical light again.
GOPR3700.jpeg

The trees have taken full advantage of this secret valley where they can grow undisturbed and tower above everything with such incredible dominance, one can really feel their presence and energy.
GOPR3703.jpeg

Heading home now back up the steep slope, our platform just visible at the top.
GOPR3702.jpeg

You can see from this angle the hole i have built the platform over. It was a challenge i enjoyed very much and feel certain it is safe, despite spending no money on this whatsoever.
GOPR3705.jpeg

But you know, when it comes to things like this which motivate every member of my family to spend more time in nature, it is my absolute pleasure to simply knuckle down and get it done.

We don't know what we are capable of till we give it a try. Certainly i have no qualifications as a builder! I just follow my intuition.

Up top we have a couple of swing zones now.
GOPR3708.jpeg

It's basically another very cool area to play.
GOPR3710.jpeg

This section still has me scratching my head a bit but another platform seems the obvious way to go. You just can't beat that bamboo view.
GOPR3718.jpeg

Update!

Someone told me today (after posting this) that the bamboo forest very likely belongs to us as our garden is the only one which has access to it. Now that would be something hey! Need to get that confirmed with the village mayor. Not that it would make much difference as i intend to look after it no matter who it belongs to. And let's be honest, no one can really own land and the native Americans were right to be confused when offered money in exchange for it. We are merely the caretakers, ideally humble and flexible, like the mighty bamboo growing beneath us.

Not much else to say really except thank you thank you thank you!

Just when i thought the ride couldn't get any better, it does.

Love & Light everyone 🌱

Love the acorn art and the light through the bamboo. What a lovely area!

We've had those acorns for almost five years, collected back when i first started prepping! But i realise now they fall in such abundance every year there is no point in saving them away. So this felt like the perfect thing to do with them. Plus there are loads of other areas i would like to decorate in this way. So much fun still to be had!

damn!

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SPACE you all build together ! <3

Appreciate the compliment. Needless to say there are electroculture devices all over the place thanks to last year's explorations. In fact, i realise now that i have seasons and that spring is my time for discovery and creation, while in the winter i will tend to my home based projects, like RANA the website through which we will (eventually!) be able to gift our products out to people. Summer seems the time to focus on plants, making sure they are surviving the heat and any attempt to mix up my three seasons seems futile!

All the best wishes to you for the upcoming summer season 🙏

Look into permaculture and design your space so that the plants boost each other, so you do not have to worry about them

only ill plants need 24/7 care
sadly most modern plants are very ill, genetic changing over the decades..

so let nature kill them - there is a reason why slugs go onto salad like some bomb defusing team
and leave natural plants alone

but there is urzeit code, electroculture, permaculture, luckily

Oh, what a wonderful place to discover. I wanna be there now!
Have a nice day:)

It's hard to describe my gratitude for having found this place. Really, i may end up living here!

You have a great day too 🙏

Wow! The bamboo platform looks great. That’s a lot of work building this one.
It’s rather amazing to see bamboo forest in that part of the world. People here grow bamboo for food and for the bamboo sticks.
The forest has been discovered and things are going to look great. Would love to explore the forest and the river at the bottom.

The atmosphere seems to remind me of Tarzan and Jane world.

Yes Tarzan & Jane is a great thought! And funnily enough Esteban is reading Robin Hood at the moment so asked me yesterday if we could make a scene from the story as a film in the forest. Sure i said, this sounds like a lot of fun and it would be my pleasure to teach him how to make films.

It was a huge amount of effort cutting, dragging, trimming and attaching all that bamboo and i have a much bigger respect now for the Asian cultures which build this way all the time.

Am interested to learn which part of the plant you eat? Can you tell me any more about that?

I found a video about bamboo shoots in English. This could be helpful to you, but I don’t know if you have the small or big bamboos in the bamboo forest.

It’s a lot of work trying to keep the bamboo groves in neat condition. They grow very fast so I always give bamboo shoots to villagers and others who Iike to eat bamboo shoots. Sometimes I just allow them to search and cut as much bamboo shoots as they want. Poorer families could sell boiled bamboo shoots and make some money. My gardener made pickled bamboo shoots which will keep over a year. So people could have delicious bamboo curry while bamboo shoots are out of season.

You have to boil them in boiling water for ten minutes before cooking bamboo shoots.i

You're garden is so beautiful, the arcon stone is well designed, it is a beautiful place to be.

Thanks for your comment. We are very lucky to have this place and look forward to spending many long days here this summer :)

Great use of the bamboo

Appreciated. Just wish it grew a bit bigger. Then we could make a whole bunch of other things too! Currently hunting for shoots we can eat...

Come harvest mine lol.. they're like 50 feet tall
