Because of the upcoming change in Google Timeline (formerly Location History)
So if you have been following my posts, then you must be knowing that, I try to do a little hive marketing by putting the post links as part of Google reviews, giving few photos as teaser so that people who need to look at all details, need to navigate to the hive post. And I do most of my work on a laptop, as I am not very comfortable with mobile devices, not a fan of those small keys on mobile. However, a recent change has affected this process and I can no longer write reviews on the web, because, Google is not going to save the Timeline data on the web (or their server), and instead it will now be stored on our device.
So they wanted me to choose the settings by December 8 2024, and they kept on poking and reminding me every few days, so I gave up and agreed, and then its gone from the web.
You can still see your contributions on the web, which you have done. However, you can't do any new contributions from the web, because your timeline data will be only on your device.
You can manage your timeline here : http://maps.google.com/maps/timeline
It's your personal map recording routes and trips you've taken and places you have visited, based on your Location History. You can provide reviews on those places, which you have visited and this is the reason, you can no longer do it on the web.
Google definitely did not become poor to be not able to afford to store the data, but it seems, they did it on purpose to get rid of the troubles in the name of enhancing user privacy, by shifting to on-device system. Some say, The law enforcement agencies keeps asking for user data to Google creating unnecessary trouble and by doing this change, they simply can tell, they no longer have access to this data as it's private to the user. Easy for them, isn't it ?
And they definitely did not see lot of business value in this, otherwise, who does not want profit !! Companies like OpenAI are moving from non-profit to profit mode, the more richer they are, the more money they want from us - Centralized companies will do like this.
I have still posted a question on the Google Maps help, but I have found out a way to do the review on the device by copying few photos from the camera to device and then posting the review, along with the hive post link. A lot of people see the photos, as of writing this post, 2,051,284 views have been made. If a little of them are curious to discover hive, then we will see them here and these are some regular reviewers, so they will help us spread the word. For hive we are the marketing, as pointed out by @gtg here, crowdsourcing is the key.
