When we meditate on the love that God has for us, an unconditional love that He expects us to have and cultivate a love as similar as possible to His, we know that this is out of our hands. But His Grace makes up for our shortcomings and drives us along the path of good.
When we realize the great love that God has for us, in a way that I would say "automatically" we also begin to love Him with a growing love that we would like to be greater. When we realize that the way He wants us to show Him love is through active love for our brothers, service, support, solidarity with the other, towards the other, also becomes "automatic." They say that on one occasion an American journalist went to the convent where Mother Teresa of Calcutta lived to interview her. They informed him that she was not there but had gone to a very poor neighborhood nearby. The journalist went to look for her there and found her crouching removing worms from a beggar's diseased leg. Por amor, nuestro Señor Jesucristo cambió su divinidad por nuestra humanidad, semejándonos en todo menos en el pecado, y bebió el cáliz amargo de su pasión por nuestra redención. Nada de lo que hacemos tiene valor a menos que se haga con amor. El mundo de hoy va en la dirección equivocada y se esfuerza por lograr y mantener cosas que están vacías, cosas que son temporales, efímeras y que se alejan cada vez más del amor verdadero. Cuando meditamos en el amor que Dios tiene por nosotros, un amor incondicional que Él espera que tengamos y cultivemos un amor lo más parecido posible al Suyo, sabemos que eso está fuera de nuestras manos. Pero Su Gracia compensa nuestras deficiencias y nos conduce por el camino del bien. Cuando nos damos cuenta del gran amor que Dios tiene por nosotros, de una manera que diría "automáticamente" también comenzamos a amarlo con un amor creciente que quisiéramos que fuera mayor. Cuando nos damos cuenta de que la forma en que Él quiere que le mostremos amor es a través del amor activo hacia nuestros hermanos, el servicio, el apoyo, la solidaridad con el otro, hacia el otro, también se vuelve "automático".
