Look Back or "Rukku bakku" is a Japanese Anime Movie that came to my attention after Chris Stuckmann on Youtube had it in his Best Movies of 2024 as an honorable Mention (Link). While I'm certainly not a seasoned Anime Watcher, I really do love the genre mainly having Watched the Studio Ghibli Movie along with Your Name. So the reference I have is quite brutal as I kind of worked my way down from watching what are considerd the best of the genre.
I didn't come in with too high expectations as I mainly wanted something different and short as my 3rd movie to watch this year. It is an adaptation of a comic book from what I understand.
Look Back (6.9/10)
Spoiler-Free Movie Plot: Fujino is a young Girl who Likes to draw Manga and confidently does them for the school paper until someone else from another class asks to make one. This eventually brings the 2 girls who share the same love together.
While I enjoyed watching the movie and as always loved the drawing style and animations, I can't say that it really stick to me a couple days after. At the start of the movie I was mainly wondering if the main character was a boy or a girl which wasn't really clear to me. It's a movie about the love for drawing and getting better at it along with a connection between 2 girls. I didn't get fully taken away by the emotional aspect of the film for some reason.
I guess when watching these movies, I'm mainly looking for the magic that I found and experienced with most Studio Ghibly Movies which will stay with me for a lifetime. So While I enjoyed it, I doubt I will remember much of it at the end of this year so I'm giving it a 6.9/10
