Introduction
Cryptic was the last conflict airdrop and I was able to get my guaranteed one as can seen below. Honestly, I wish it turned gold foil but it is what it is. Despite being a legendary summoner, it doesn't seem that strong and I will share my thoughts on why this may be in this post.
Cryptic
Cryptic is a 7 mana dual element summoner with water and death element. It has a team enemy debuff of -1 speed and blind. and an interesting tactics choice of retaliate & enfeeble and poison & expose. I think most people would choose the poison and expose though over the retaliate and enfeeble. I think retaliate and enfeeble would be more niche towards maybe a melee only ruleset.
Cryptic was one of the legendary summoners that was released recently through conflict airdrops and I believe it's main purpose was to counter grimbardun smith. With the existence of this summoner and Venka, I feel it has made people scared to play grimbardun smith as much since I don't see it as often as before. Honestly, I haven't actually seen any players use cryptic battling against me.
There are two reasons I believe it's not played. One it could be because many players just don't own it or don't want to rent it. The second is that it's more of a reactive summoner. You're using it to counter the opponent so you have to predict the opponents lineup accordingly.
Strategy With Cryptic
I can't take credit for this strategy but I came across it seeing the top battles. I can see how it can be used now with Venka because Venka's greated counter is Arkemis the bear with the forcefield but expose removes that. Antonnie was just able to run down the game with Venka since there's no counter with the forcefield.
I think Cryptic also has a place in up close and personal ruleset as well because water and death both have a decent amount of demoralize. If combined together with the retaliate and enfeeble the opponent wouldn't have any damage.
Thank You
Thank you for reading and supporting me. Have you been able to make Cryptic work? Do you think he's good or just meh?
