Afternoon everyone ….
If you are persistent and consistent, every once in a while you find a coin or a round for a really good price.
I frequent auction sites pretty much daily. I don’t sleep very much so the lying in bed gets monotonous, so I use that time to check one the five or six auction sites to check out what is up for auction.
There are all sorts of different style auction sites. The bigger auction sites typically end on Saturdays or Sundays. But there are a couple that have daily auctions, three day auctions, five day auctions and seven day auctions.
The bigger auction sites typically have the auctions open for bidding for two to three weeks. These are typically for higher end coins, bank notes, vintage silver ingots. These bigger auctions also charge buyer premiums as well. So if you happen to be looking at auction sites, make sure you read up about that particular auction site before bidding. The buyer premiums range from 2-5% of the winning bid price. This is how the auction sites make their money. Some of these site send out booklets of the lots up for auction, like Heritage, Stack’s Bowers, and Great Collections.
If you want to see some amazing old coins in pristine condition. Check out those three sites. They frequently have coins, bank notes, or very rare and unusual pieces up for auction.
Well I’ve gotten completely off subject….
The point of this post was to share a vintage Christmas silver round that I got for a very reasonable price. This Christmas silver round was produced by the Silvertowne Mint. It is from the early 2000’s, if I remember correctly.
This round has an awesome design depicted on it, and I was very surprised to get it for $2.25 over spot at the time. It is also still sealed in the original mint packaging. Not that that matters, since it will be going in an Air-Tite ornament holder shortly.
The round has Santa flying through the air on his sled filled with toys. It has the inscription “Merry Christmas” across the top and “To all a good night” inscribed across the bottom. A very classic round.
So the moment you’ve all been waiting for…..
