The early 1990s saw the introduction of holograms on commemorative coins. Although holograms are increasingly used in cryptocurrencies as labels to protect security codes, they are primarily inserted for eye-catching adornment and to spark curiosity among numismatists.
The composition of holograms, which are made up of tiny lines carved into coin dies, varies according to the viewing angle. The picture deteriorates along with these micro-grooves, as they are prone to doing during the minting process and when handled. Therefore, even though holograms provide an extra layer of protection (they are frequently employed to safeguard bank notes and other high-value documents), they are not appropriate for high-circulation or large-volume manufacture.
I am guessing that this is the reason for the limited mintage of this series, which is 8,888.
