2020 – MOLON LABE

Description:

Molon Labe, meaning “come and take it” is a traditional Greek phrase expressing defiance, believed to be spoken by the Spartan King Leonidas when the Persian armies demanded the surrender of their weapons. The expression is commemorated in this two-ounce silver art medal.

Contains: 2 Troy Ounces .999 Fine Silver

Obverse:The detailed depiction of Soldier in Spartan regalia holding a spear, with a battle scene in the background, and the words “MOLON LABE” positioned at the point of the spear.

Reverse: High-Relief Intaglio Mint logo set on radial burst surrounded by stippled border reading “TWO TROY OUNCES” above and “.999 FINE SILVER” below on textured background, flanked by mintage year in roman numerals “MMXX”.

When the king of Persia demanded that King Leonidas and his Spartan forces lay down their arms, Leonidas famously responded with two words: “Molon Labe”, or

“Come and take them.”

There are many today who own firearms for defensive purpose and for the protection of themselves and their loved ones. There are likewise many of those who show support of firearms ownership in general.

Molon Labe has become a rallying cry for 2nd amendment supporters in America, and proponents of firearms ownership around the world. It is a reminder to those who would take away the right to bear arms that doing so is an inherently tricky proposition…an armed populace makes for a more cautious government after all.
