Pure silver must be cared for in designated silver storage containers and must not be kept in locations where it will be exposed to high oxygen concentrations.
This silver round has not left its plastic sleeve for ages! This is what sometimes happens to silver. I think airtites or coin capsules are the best way to protect single silver coins or rounds.
U.S.S. San Francisco CA-38
USS San Francisco (CL/CA-38), a New Orleans-class cruiser, was the second ship of three of the United States Navy named after the city of San Francisco, California. Commissioned in 1934, she was one of the most decorated ships of World War II, earning 17 battle stars and the Presidential Unit Citation.1
Like most of her sister ships, she saw extensive action during the Guadalcanal campaign, including the Battle of Cape Esperance and the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, during which she was heavily damaged and her captain and admiral killed.1
U.S.S. San Francisco was decommissioned immediately after the end of the war and was sold for scrap in 1959.
Hamilton Mint was a significant manufacturer of silver in the 1970s. Rounds or sets of bars constituted the majority of what it produced. Several of the sets also had gold plating applied to it. Hamilton Mint produced "proof-like" products in all categories.
Did you notice that vintage silver sells for a higher premium? Have you wondered why that is so?
My favorite type of silver to accumulate and stack is vintage bullion. Stacking silver for its silver bullion content and stacking silver that has value are two aspects of the stacking approach that I enjoy doing. Siver content and collectability.
An increasing number of people are interested in vintage silver. The main driving force behind the vintage silver market is scarcity. Production has stopped; the silver is no longer required, it is not being produced, and will not be produced in the future.
These are the vintage rounds I have recently shown:
