A weekend spent in a medieval atmosphere : the living chess game !

Hello hivers, I wish you a wonderful Sunday!
Today I'm here to tell you about a wonderful event in my city (Pistoia, in Italy): a festival dedicated to the medieval history of my the city! The theme of the edition of this year is Tempus Pacis (in latin means "peace time").
Just to know, my city (in ancient time the name was Pistorium or Pistoriae) was a centre of Gallic, Ligurian and Etruscan settlements before becoming a Roman colony in the 6th century, but the best age for my city started in 1177 when it proclaimed itself a free commune. You can read more about our history here.
Coming back to the events during this weekend, you have to know my hubby @paolobeneforti had to be part of the living chess game. he's a chess player since many years and a member of the local chess club that organized the living chess yesterday. The role of Paolo was the White horse and it was really a special afternoon spent between a lot of people dressed with fantastic costumes!

All the events (a lot of different events!) was in the main square called Piazza del Duomo and it was really a jump in the past thanks the historical reenactors from different part of Italy (around 600 people involved) each of them with a specific role like, for example, medieval artisans, knights and traders, nobles, poor, dancers, etc...❤️
I took a lot of pics and so I thought to write 2 (or more) contents about the festival. This one is about the living chess and, at first, a pic of my hubby ready to play as the White Horse:

The chess board was in red and white cause the symbol of my city is the a red and white board similar to the chess board. ^_^

The chess game played during the event was similar to a famous ancient fight that happened in Pistoia in the medioeval age.

It was really funny to be there and stay tuned to see my next contents about other events I watched yesterday (sure, in the medieval style!).
See ya soon and stay safe,
Silvia
