I attended an art school in Bologna, but then I decided to pursue a completely different job. However, my passion for painting has always remained strong and I have continued to paint for my own pleasure.
As many of you know, I have an unconditional love for animals, especially cats and dogs. Unfortunately, my job takes me around a lot and so I cannot keep them with me as much as I would like. It would be too difficult to care for them properly.
In the photos I have shared with you, you can see three portraits of dogs that I painted for some friends. I painted these portraits with oil on canvas, as a gift of friendship, without asking for any compensation. My passion for painting is very strong and I only need the material to be able to continue creating my works.
I am happy to be able to create these paintings for people who love their animals and wish to have a tangible memory of them. Animals are now an integral part of our families and the desire to have a portrait of them is very common. Also, as animals' lives are very short, a memory like a portrait can be very precious.
Exactly! It is a titanic feat to get our furry friends to sit still to take a decent photo. Some dogs are so active that they never seem to rest, and if it weren't for photography, we would think that their only state of rest is when they are sleeping. But to create a portrait that is as close to reality as possible, it is important to capture their attitude, their expression, the way they move.
That is why photos are so important to me. They can help me recreate every detail of their appearance and personality. Moreover, photos also give me some room for creativity, because I can choose the right angle, the perfect light, the most suitable shade of colour.
But, of course, not all photos are the same, and there are some that are just difficult to use as a reference for creating a portrait. Perhaps the photo is too blurred, or the animal is not looking at the camera, or there are other people or objects in the picture that might distract attention from our beloved furry friend. In these cases, it takes a bit of ingenuity to create the perfect picture.
But when it all works, and I manage to create a portrait that is as faithful to our furry friend as possible, the satisfaction is enormous. Plus, seeing the owners' reaction when they see their friend portrayed on the canvas is priceless. It is one of the main reasons why I love painting animal portraits.
