Hi guys

Unfortunately yesterday I was not able to create my daily post, I had no free time from work, but fortunately towards the evening I was able to create this post, about a village that I consider to be my favourite, not only because it is located in Tuscany but because from my point of view it is the most beautiful village in Tuscany.

I am sorry that this village will not be taking part this year in the famous contest that is organised every year by Italian public TV, because surely a little more publicity would have made it more famous, I am talking about the beautiful village of Pienza that is located in the beautiful Val d'Orcia that I have already told you about here, which is famous for its breathtaking landscapes its beautiful hills the fields of golden wheat and the famous Cypresses that dot the landscape.

Pienza think it was built by a Pope Pius II in the 15th century and this medieval town at the time inhabited by so many people became a model for the inspiration for Renaissance town planning, and the Val d'Orcia place where this beautiful village is located has been a Unesco World Heritage Site for several years now for its natural beauty and medieval architecture.

The most important tourist attractions in Pienza are the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Piccolomini palace and the Diocesan museum where a vast collection of works of art is kept. unfortunately, due to time constraints, I did not have the chance to visit, but I will certainly return as soon as I have the chance.

I confess that I am not a wine lover, yes, I like to have a few drinks every now and then, but Pienza, like other parts of Tuscany, is famous for the production of some of the best wines, including Brunello di Montalcino and Nobile di Montepulciano, and in fact this village is surrounded by many vineyards and cellars where you can taste these excellent products of Tuscany.

But honestly, those times that I have come to this village I have discovered that this place is also famous for the production of pecorino cheese, and here there is a very important event in September dedicated precisely to this cheese where you can taste the different types of pecorino and watch demonstrations of cheese production, but not only towards the end of August there is an important Palio dei Somari, a donkey race that takes place along the streets of the historic centre of Pienza and is a very entertaining event that involves the entire local community. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to visit at that time, but let's just say that these donkey or horse races are a very widespread custom in Tuscany.

Purely Pienza is known for its delicious culinary specialities such as fresh homemade pasta, but what I recommend you eat, and unfortunately I don't even have a photo of it, is wild boar stew, a real delicacy and speciality of this place, even if in my opinion it is a dish for fairly strong, meat-loving people.

In summary I can say that Pienza is a village that has a lot to offer to those people especially who are looking for a combination of history but also culture gastronomy and natural beauty in fact Pienza today is a lively and welcoming town that often celebrates its history and culture with pride and fortunately for several years now has become an increasingly popular tourist destination attracting visitors from all over the world.

I forgot to mention that when you have the chance to visit this Borgo you will notice that an innovative urban plan has been created, which you can already guess from the photos I have shared with you here, but in fact the architect Bernardo Rossellino, who was a very famous architect at the time, planned the alignment of the main streets along the east-west axis to allow for excellent exposure to the sun and the panoramic view of this village I am sure you will be quite surprised by this.
