I think everyone has already noticed that I am a fan of castles and all kinds of ancient buildings. Therefore, today I will show you the castle of eternal love - Bory, which is located in the city of Székesfehérvár in Hungary.
Everyone can wonder why this castle is called the "castle of eternal love". When I learned the history of this castle, I was a little shocked, I am sure you will also be shocked by this story.
So, I will start with a short biography of the architect. This is Yone Berry. He is a Hungarian architect and sculptor, teacher, professor, and rector of the Hungarian Royal School of Drawing.
During the First World War, he was drafted into the army and appointed an official military artist in Sarajevo, for his service he was awarded the Order of Franz Joseph. From 1911 to 1946, he was a professor at the Hungarian Royal School of Drawing, and at the same time, from 1921 to 1944, he was a teacher at the Joseph Royal Technical University (since 1934, it was renamed the Joseph Hungarian Royal University of Technology and Economics). From 1943-1945 he was rector of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts.
He was the author of monuments, a number of sculptures and memorial plaques. Between 1906 and 1944, he created more than 185 sculptures, mainly in Székesfehérvár and Budapest. Participated in collective exhibitions. Received several national and international awards.
This castle was the pinnacle of this sculptor's work. And I will explain why. The castle was built for about 40 years, work began in 1912. And now I will move on to the most interesting part, the castle was largely built by the architect himself with several assistants.
He loved his wife Ilona so much that he decided to build the best place for her to live on his own. He wrote the entire plan himself and then began to build his architectural masterpiece on his own.
At first, the townspeople openly laughed at the strange neighbour, but soon the ridicule was replaced by boundless respect. He became the only person in the world who built a house of such a scale by himself. And all for the sake of his only, beloved wife Ilona. Construction lasted for 40 long years and ended only in 1959.
The castle is a truly grandiose and majestic structure in which various architectural styles are harmoniously combined. All over the territory of the castle, there are sculptures, bas-reliefs, paintings and artefacts created by the artist himself and his wife. Practically every room has an image of Ilona, the artist literally prayed to her like an icon. And this is not an exaggeration: in the palace, there is a chapel where Ilona is depicted in the image of the Madonna, and at her feet is the artist himself in the image of an angel.
The courtyard of the castle is a fragrant garden with many rose bushes, where you want to linger longer. Everything here is imbued with an atmosphere of love, devotion and purity. No wonder the castle became a Mecca for lovers. If you want to carry love through your whole life - come to Bory Castle, make a wish and it will certainly come true!
