Betsy looked at her sister with an eye that said ‘Go along because there is no way I am getting on that roller coaster’.
“Come on, you should try it. it's not that bad,” Tracy said to Betsy as she pulled her towards the roller coaster like she wouldn't notice she was getting pulled.
Betsy yanked her hand back and said with all clarity “I told you I wasn't going to get on that thing, and I meant it". "Well okay then, just know you are missing out on a lot of fun,” Tracy finally gave up and went on to mount the roller coaster.
Betsy looked at Tracy as her lips twitched, ‘why was Tracy so happy getting on that monster’, she went on further to observe others who got on, ‘seriously why are they all so happy’.
She watched as the roller coaster began to move and her sister slowly moved up to the peak of the coaster rail where she and the rest all vanished into the distance.
Ching! The roller coaster sounded before it released from the peak and her sister and her fellow cohorts plunged onto the roller coaster and then up and then twisting at joints on the coaster rail all at high speed.
She heard the screams of the people on the roller coaster and she still couldn't figure out how it was something of joy to them.
……
Just then she started to recall dark memories. She was in high school and she and Tracy had gone to a late-night festival. Tracy didn't even want to go but she was dragged along by Betsy who was super excited that her crush had finally asked her out and invited her to hang out with him that night's festival. It was like a first date.
That night she made sure she was dressed her best. After some time with Calvin and her date, he won her a teddy and snacks from a game. They arrived at the roller coaster and Betsy saw couples going on and having fun. And she immediately wanted to experience it with Calvin.
Calvin bought the tickets and when it was their turn in line they got on the coaster. It slowly moved up to its peak and Betsy was so excited. But when she saw how high it was she became so scared and wished she never came on it.
Not even up to a minute into the ride Betsy passed out. When they got down people gathered and after a few attempts to get her back, she woke up. Betsy immediately ran away as she realized in embarrassment her situation. It was her first date with Calvin and she ruined it.
Although the next day at school Calvin was very cool with her and very few people remember the incident Betsy vowed never to get on a roller coaster again.
……
Betsy started watching videos on her phone to pass the time before her sister got back.
“Hi," a soft, deep, and gentle voice called her attention from behind. Betsy turned and it was a very handsome lad, she had little goosebumps and butterflies in her belly as she hadn't yet seen a man she could describe as beautiful.
“Hi," Betsy said in a weird high tone and bowed her head immediately after in embarrassment. “Are you going on the roller coaster," he asked her. She felt nervous again, what she felt was stronger than a normal crush. “No, I don't like it. It just doesn't feel safe,” she tried her best to sound normal.
“Oh, I am trying to convince my little brother who is also scared. Just then Betsy realized how engulfed she was in admiring his deep blue eyes, his blonde curls sitting perfectly on his perfectly shaped head, his pink lips, and his perfect nose and ears. “Oh," she said as she noticed the younger lad standing beside him.
"Hi, I am Dan and this is my senior brother Jack who doesn't know how dangerous this thing is,” the nerdy-looking boy with glasses pointed out.
"Okay Dan, if I can convince_” Jack looked at Betsy and waited for a name. "Betsy,” she said in her abnormally high voice again. "_ Betsy, then you would come with me next and if you don't we will get you new clothes, and if I can't we'll leave immediately and you will keep your undersized clothes”. "Deal,” Dan replied.
Betsy didn't know if she was meant to feel insulted by Dan's courage on the bet, but she couldn't blame him; she didn't know if there was anything that could convince her.
“Please, if you do this I will owe you dinner tonight,” Jack made a sad face as he begged her. ‘Never say never’ she said to herself as her heart was beating not because she was about to accept but because she was going to get dinner with the angel she now had a crush on.
“Okay, I will do it," she said. Both Dan and Jack looked surprised as they didn't expect her to agree immediately.
She got on the coaster with Jack seated beside her. When they reached the peak, she began to ask herself whether this angel she found was worth it. Her chest rose and fell and her breath became steady as she looked down.
Jack slowly held her hand, “hey, it's all right. I am here," Betsy suddenly felt safe, she didn't know why she felt safe with him.
Ching! The roller coaster plunged into motion. Betsy started screaming and Jack started too. She looked at him as he screamed in joy and she didn't know when she began to scream in joy.
Throughout the ride, he held her hand and didn't let go. They alighted the ride and he was still holding her hand. “Well, I owe you that dinner,” he then brought out his phone “Can I have your number". “Sure," Betsy took the phone and dialed her number in.
“We should hang out more so I could owe you more dates," Jack said as he went over to his brother. Betsy was blushing uncontrollably and didn't even notice her sister coming from behind. “Where were you?" Tracy tapped her. “I went for a ride on the coaster," Betsy smiled. “No way, and why are you smiling so much?"
"I will answer your question later, but right now I need to get home and ready myself for a date,” Betsy said.
"What?” Tracy asked, puzzled walking behind after Betsy trying to figure out what she missed.
