A monument to Miranda, the Mason / Un monumento a Miranda, el masón [ENG-ESP]

in #hive-17870812 days ago

When I did the research on the Victoria Lodge No. 9, article I published a few days ago in my blog, I learned that in the city, there was another thing linked to Freemasonry, a monument in homage to Francisco de Miranda, so I wrote it down to visit it as soon as I could.

I have passed by this place many times and I had seen the monument, but the truth is that I hadn't paid attention to it. This small square is located in La Mora sector of La Victoria, Aragua state (Venezuela), in front of the Ciudad Socialista urban complex, right in the middle of an island that separates the avenue.

This square was designed and built by members of Victoria Lodge No. 9 and was inaugurated on March 28, 2008, the birthday of the precursor of Venezuela's Independence, Francisco de Miranda (1750 - 1816), who is considered the Father of Latin American Freemasonry.

That is why in Venezuela, the National Masonic Day is every March 28th. Francisco de Miranda is described as I.P.B.: Illustrious and Powerful Brother, which means that he had very high Masonic degrees or what they call 33 Degree.

As I already had some knowledge of Masonic symbols from the article I wrote about the Lodge, I immediately identified some of them in this plaza. The square and the compass with the letter G in the middle (geometry) star in this monument, they are on the pedestal and above them is the figure of Miranda.

Then there is the checkered floor, which in Masonry symbolizes tolerance. The opposing colors are a metaphor for the opposing ideas that its members may have, but which nevertheless coexist in harmony. The world we live in is neither totally kind (white) nor totally evil (black), it is a mosaic.

The world is life and death, day and night, light and shadow.

As for the materials used in the construction of this square, there are the black and white tiles on the floor of the monument, the cement pedestal covered with decorative bricks, the marble plaque, the square and compass made with metal pipes and the statue of Miranda that seems to be made of bronze, I didn't find more information about it.

In addition, around the statue are a series of columns made of concrete, some with a sphere of the same material at the top.

Two of them stand out as the tallest, and represent the pillars of the temple, in the lodges they can be seen on the facades. According to what I read, the space between these columns is a symbol of the equity and perfection that every Masonic work seeks. Of course this subject is very broad, and if you are interested in going deeper I invite you to investigate, there is a lot of written material and on the Internet.

On the sides of the pedestal there are small cement milestones, six on each side, in Freemasonry the 12 columns have to do with the zodiacal signs and the knowledge of cosmography, astronomy and nautical knowledge derived from them. I suppose that in this square they represent that, although as I mentioned, I couldn't find any information on the conceptual details of this monument.

So far this tour, I hope you have found it interesting and let me know if where you live there is any monument linked to Freemasonry or any lodge. See you next time!

Wow, so much symbology gathered in one place and in front of everyone's eyes! Few people really know what it means, others just enjoy the sculpture and its beautiful design, but you and I really go beyond, since you have actually aroused my curiosity to find out a little more about this monument to Miranda that I didn't know, so thank you very much for sharing it 😉✌️

That's right, I had seen it myself several times but it wasn't until I did some research on the Lodge that I discovered that statue had to do with the Masons, a very interesting topic indeed. Thanks for stopping by and commenting @jesuslnrs! Greetings 😊

Wow. Both topics fascinate me… And just to add fuel to the fire, 😃🔥 for some researchers, there is no historical proof that Miranda was initiated as a Mason. Although this seems an unquestionable truth for the Masons themselves…

What I do not doubt is the great influence that he could have had on many people of the time… even today! And this somehow generates “symbolic effectiveness” in the figure of Miranda as a great leader, for military personnel, historians, politicians, and also for Masons… Great posts! Kind regards!✨

That's right! Hahaha, I read just that, that there are no documents to affirm that Miranda was a Mason, but apparently the Masons consider him their brother, so I guess it is something they have confirmed, the information will have passed by word of mouth.

I'm glad you liked it, it's certainly a fascinating and very extensive subject, thanks for appreciating! 😊

It's a rather controversial and extensive subject, and the question lies in the diary and archive that Miranda left behind (now public), and where he apparently made no mention of his Masonic affiliation. anywhere... so it is up to the brotherhood to prove otherwise... I think I can infer where this may be going but I don't want to go on about it here. A hug!

😉 A hug!

What a marvelous monument @sofathana! In such a small architectural footprint, it has plenty of embedded symbolic gestures. And I'm particularly fascinated by the interesting stories attached to them. ☺️

I think few who pass by pay attention to it, perhaps there is a lack of more information in the square, thanks for appreciating and commenting! 😃

Wow! Despite being a small piece of sculptural artwork, its wonderful tales and valuable symbolisms make it much bigger. Great feature @sofathana! ☺️

True, it's small but it stands out, thank you so much for appreciating! 😊

That's right! 😉
