I ran the washing machine yesterday and was horrified when it came time to hang the clothes. It was sunny outside, yes, and maybe that had me confused. Because when I came out with the laundry, I felt cold. Autumn chill. By forecast they say it's temporary, but when it starts like that, folks, it's clear, and it's about time too. It's September and no matter how hard I try to fool myself, time is running out, the sun is running out, like sand between the fingers, like sand in an hourglass. The virtual hands move, the imaginary clock ticks. And so it is with all our lives...
