Breaking Free From the Chains of Procrastination

in #hive-19768510 months ago

Greetings to everyone! I was feeling so lazy today, I had an exam today. Departed from my home to my exam center at about 8 o'clock in the morning. The exam lasted for about 3 hours. I had some other tasks scheduled to be done today, so after the exam, I went straight to complete those tasks. After a day full of fatigue and tiredness, I reached my home at about 5 o'clock in the evening. I am not in a situation to do anymore thing today, so; I should just take a nap, I guess! Well, same thought was going through my mind, till my resolution of being active and writing at a continuous flow on Hive struck my head. Not going to lie, but I had almost made up my mind to procrastinate today's blog and just would have scrolled through Insta or watch some movies. But I convinced my lazy ass to get up from the bed and write something and stick to the plans which I myself have made.

So, what better topic than to discuss about 'procrastination' itself. Procrastination, a word undoubtedly so infamous in young generation. Now, don't get me wrong, when I say mostly procrastination has a different love for the young generation, because I myself know, on a single day, how much pending tasks, I try to convince my mind to do it at a different time than the scheduled time of the work. It's not easy to maintain a continuous flow of work. We are not machines right? We do get tired, we do get fatigue, we do need some rests after doing loads of chores. But, procrastinating can never be a solution to reach our goals in time.

You can delay a work, provided the outcome does not affect your eventual goals. Like, if I have to submit my research proposal by next week, and I know 6 days are more than enough for me to do, then I can take a day rest, but taking one more day off, will definitely hamper my performance. So, yes it is essential to take rests, or to skip a day, but making it a habit can be futile.

Procrastination is not merely a lack of time management or laziness; it often stems from psychological and emotional factors. Fear of failure, perfectionism, low self-esteem and I guess this one is most important and it is lack of motivation; are among the complex reasons that contribute to the procrastination predicament. Recognizing these underlying issues is the first step towards breaking free from the clutches of procrastination.

The human brain is wired to seek pleasure and avoid pain. Procrastination provides temporary relief from the discomfort associated with a task, as individuals engage in activities that offer instant gratification. But the long term affects of pain and rejection could and definitely would outweigh your temporary relief.

Once you find your root cause of procrastinating your works, you need to address it, hiding away from it can not help you. Face it! Deal it! You are not born with a golden spoon, you got to keep grinding and work towards your dreams, until they no longer a dream anymore. Keep your head high and think for a second, someone else, maybe from your neighborhood have prepared the same goals as you and are grinding twice as much than you are currently giving efforts. So, plan things wisely and do not get it slip away, stay focused and believe in yourself that you have got what it takes to be in that peak point.

I have read about the Pomodoro technique back than in my high school. Here, you break down your work into intervals, typically 25 minutes of focused work, followed by a 5 minute break. In this 5 minute you can do whatever you like to do, like scroll through memes, play a guitar or listen to some dope music, to anything that makes you happy. It definitely helps to maintain concentration and reduces the urge to procrastinate.

Sometimes, rewarding yourself after a work can be a very good motivation to keep doing it until the job is finished. Positive reinforcement can strengthen the connection between productivity and positive emotions, making it more likely that you'll tackle future tasks promptly.

By understanding the psychological aspects of procrastination and adopting effective strategies, individuals like you and me can break free from the cycle of delay and flourish on a journey of increased productivity and personal growth. It's time to face tasks head-on, embrace challenges and transform procrastination into a stepping stone toward success.
