If you are probably using previous releases of iPhone, either iPhone 15 or older, and thinking of upgrading to the latest iPhone 16 but you don't know if it is worth the upgrade, then this article is here to let you know all you need to know about the latest release of iPhone 16 before making your decisions.
Let us begin by getting to know the series that was released. We have the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The iPhone 16 is set at a price of $799, the iPhone 16 Plus at $899, the iPhone 16 Pro at $999 and the iPhone 16 Pro Max at $1,199.

What's New about these Series?
- The Display and Frame
Although not a worthy reason to upgrade your device, the iPhone 16 series comes with a larger display as compared with iPhone 15. The iPhone 16 comes with a 6.1-inch display size and 60Hz refresh rate, the iPhone 16 Plus comes with a 6.7-inch display and 60Hz refresh rate, the iPhone 16 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch display and 120Hz refresh rate and lastly, the largest screen size goes to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which comes with a 6.9-inch display size and 120Hz refresh rate.
We don't also just get large screens but also thinner bezels on the iPhone 16 series. This means the devices would have a larger screen to body area as compared to previous releases.
Another update you can also find in the Pro Models of the iPhone 16 is the titanium frame, which is much lighter and stronger than the stainless steel used in the iPhone 15 models.
- New Function Button and Camera Control Buttons
The iPhone 16 series now has a function button that can be assigned to different actions or features based on the owner's preference. The owner can choose to set the button to turn on a flash light or open a certain app.
Also, we have the Camera Control button by the bottom side of the phone. With this one can easily have access to the phone camera and also for capture and zoom.
- The new A18 Chipset
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus come with an A18 chip, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max come with an A18 Pro chip as compared to the A17 chips in the iPhone 15 series.
Does the difference in the chip matter?
Yeah, there is actually a difference beyond just the change in name. The A18 chip would offer improved performance and better battery efficiency, which would lead to longer battery life and less heat generation as compared to that of the A17 chip. If truly the A18 does all this, then it should count as a major improvement.
- Larger Battery Life
iPhone 16 Models | iPhone 16 Pro Models |
As compared to the previous releases, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max come with a larger battery life. The iPhone 16 Pro would have up to 27 hours of video feed as compared to the 23 hours of video feed in the iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max would be able to last up to 33 hours of video feed as compared to the 29 hours of video feed of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
- Improved Camera Specification
Majorly for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max only, there has been an improvement in the camera specifications. Now the Pro and Pro Max of the iPhone 16 come with a 48MP fusion camera alongside a 48MP Ultra Wide Camera, as opposed to the 12MP Ultra Wide Camera on the iPhone 12.
Also, one key improvement in the Camera features is that with the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, you can now make 4K video recordings at 120 fps (frames per second) Dolby Vision which is not available in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus Models.
if you don't know what Dolby Vision mean, it is more of like a technology used to add extraordinary color, brightness and contrast to your video. This means you will be able to make video with very clear quality with the iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max. This doesn't come with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
- Spatial Audio and Audio Mix:
Here is something new in the iPhone Series: the Spatial Audio and Audio Mix allows you to edit the sounds in your recording; it could be noise reduction or voice isolation. It gives you options and control of your video sound.
Now, should you upgrade?
The few note worthy features for me in the iPhone 16 series are first the Spatial Audio and Audio Mix and second the new button controls. If you are using any of the iPhone 15 models and you probably don't have any special need for the audio mix, maybe you don't use your phone for professional video recording; I actually don't think you need the upgrade.
Not to also forget the iPhone 16 Models offers better heat dissipation and stronger battery life. If you feel you don't have enough battery life on your present device, then you may want to consider an upgrade.
But still, most of these updates are minor updates and if you choose to upgrade, try to ask yourself this question first: What is it that very important thing I need in my daily life that my present iPhone is not serving me and the new release would? If you can't find the answer, then don't bother upgrading.
