Before joining Hive, I always assumed that I needed to be a good writer in order to survive. I looked down at myself because I was insecure about my English skills. I thought Hive wouldn't be a good fit for me because I'm not a writer, but I've realised Hive isn't just for writers. In fact, being an excellent writer does not guarantee success on Hive.

Now the question is, what factors influence how well a person performs on Hive?

untitled.gif

It's very simple, and everything depends on how well you follow instructions...

Many people fail despite how simple and straightforward this is. Unlike when I first arrived at Hive, there are now a plethora of materials available to help newcomers understand what they need to know in order to survive in the ecosystem, as well as initiatives such as The Newbies Initiative and many others. This is why I believe it is very easy to survive here, despite the fact that gaining visibility on Hive requires a lot of hard work.

If you're reading this and believe you're not doing well on Hive because you're not a good writer, I'm afraid you're mistaken. It may not be your content, but the fact that you must have forgotten to do something or, more accurately, that you did not follow simple instructions.

untitled.gif

I've mentored a lot of people on Hive, and I've seen people who are doing well and those who aren't. This led me to the conclusion that having excellent writing skills does not matter when it comes to Hive. It may give you an advantage, but without following simple instructions from someone with experience, you will not produce anything useful.

untitled.gif

Now it comes to this question...

Why do people find it hard to follow simple directions

I've been wondering, why is it so difficult to follow a simple direction? I haven't figured out the answer yet, but it could be because they believe there is a way to cut corners. They do not trust the process or believe the instructions are not as simple as they appear.

Always trust the process, no matter where you are. The shortest route may lead to a dead end or have the most difficult path. All of this comes down to the quote: "A word is enough for the wise."

NOT KNOWING SOMETHING DOES NOT MEAN YOU CANNOT LEARN IT?

This is for those who feel justified in believing that they do not need to improve their writing skills. If you're not good at writing, that doesn't mean you can't improve. Learning leads to development and growth, which is what defines us as humans.

I would not have gotten to this point if I had not been willing to learn, improve, and most importantly, follow instructions. So, instead of feeling at ease at whatever point you find yourself, be driven to learn.

CURIOSITY AND ASKING QUESTIONS WOULD SAVE A LOT OF STRESS.

Unfortunately, not everyone would arrive at Hive with a mentor and would most likely be unfamiliar with Hive's rules and instructions. This is where curiosity and questioning come into play.

If you don't ask questions, you can never know the right thing to do...

If you don't understand or know what to do, it's perfectly fine to ask questions or leave a comment on someone else's post instead of doing whatever you think is right. The person you meet may have the solution, but if you don't ask, you'll never know.

INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS ARTICLE

Today, someone told me that he believes a lady would do well on Hive because she was a writer before joining Hive, and I realised how many writers I had trained about Hive had left Hive. It occurred to me that the majority of the people I've brought into Hive who are doing well were never writers before Hive, and I had to investigate why this was the case. This is what led me to realise that it all comes down to following simple instructions.

Likes like @ksam, @obaro and @olujay were never writers before joining Hive but yet, seeing them striving here on Hive makes me proud.

Others may have given up for a variety of reasons, likely looking for shortcuts and growing impatient with the procedure. They may have even believed they could try to game the system by shitposting and paraphrasing online content in the hope that everything would work out, but that is definitely NOT what will happen.

THANKS FOR VISITING MY BLOG πŸ˜‡πŸ’•

Sort: Β

There's always no short route to success.
And that the major problem young people face.
Back to hive, I hv learnt that there is always no shortcut about the procedures, they are all pop and plain.
Just like when I was asked to go go through the discord processes to get verified here in the hive Learners community.
I gave up, I felt the protocols were too much but no ways around it.

Writing was always boring for me, I never liked it but landing here on hive, I had to write and write well

Thanks it was an educative read

Yah! The thing about young people nowadays is that want to be among so they try to take short routes that may not end well for them.

I didn’t like writing either but I have learnt and I enjoy it now!

One thing that needs to be clear is trusting the process, sometimes shortcuts leads no where.

And yeah it's important instructions are been followed that way one get the real idea of things

You nailed it bro
Well-done champ

Yeah bro. If instructions are followed, it would be easier to learn and become better.

Howdy bro?

I'm good bro
You?

Bro... pushing brother

If this is not the biggest plague amongst newbies, especially those just starting out, I do not know what it is. I know this, as well as many of us, that being a newbie on Hive comes with a lot of uncertainties, because I have very well been through many of them.

You brought me to do what on Hive again? Was it not to come play guitar? When you saw that I had some potential I could explore and deploy on Hive, that's when the conversations about Hive started. I was very much oblivious to what the future held (I still am), but I chose to at least try, with your help, of course.

The world we have on web2 platforms is very much different from what we have here on Hive. The notion that you must be a master at something to thrive is very prominent. However, that's not all there is to being on Hive here.

The plague that we find amongst newbies is that they think they must be perfect at what they do to fully thrive on Hive. They forget the place of mentorship and follow instructions. And just like one would go round a circle in ignorance that there's a straight path to their destination, many revolve around the same point, indicating no progress, and they will still be oblivious to it.

Of course, no one's perfect and we learn every day. Or do I say we "should" learn every day? Yes, I think. This is because as abundant as the information we have around us is, we still fail to observe and learn. This is why you'd hear Sherlock say, "You see, but you do not observe."

I joined this platform with an empty brain... not to say I have a filled brain now, but to say that overtime, I have come to understand certain things about Hive. And how else could I have done so? ...by your mentorship, my curiosity and observation, and, of course, my attempts.

I cannot say much (like I haven't already... lol) about what people miss about thriving on Hive as you have laid the blueprint here already, and also that I consider myself a newbie still. But really, in the end, it'll come down to the ability to pay attention to instructions. And frankly, they're quite simple.

Well done, brother! Accolades to you for being an amazing mentor.

Wow, this is really helpful to me right now.

Please can you share some tips and instructions on how to strive well on hive. Thanks πŸ™

Do well to read the pinned posts on my blog….

I like your use of the double separator in the title || I'll try using it sometime. I don't know why but any post I put my best writing and pictures in do OK, but ones that are just me needing to dump photos to save space on Google Drive do the best.

I do not really understand what you are saying.. Do you mean post that contains more of your pictures do well than post that you don't post pictures.

Your are awesome! You really described me. Now your story encourages me. Thank you my friend. !ALIVE !PIZZA

I am glad my story encourages you

I don't understand at all... after making me read all the way down and I didn't see the simple instructions??....is there a part two or something??...you can't keep me hangingπŸ˜‚... curiosity level is 74% ....let me check your recent posts first.

Thank you for this piece of advice. As an old member who joined the community in 2017 and failed in those years. I had to resume my hive last few months to see how things go along. This article has helped me build my confidence and I know I'll make it. Thank you for that motivation once again.

Hive is more of the patience and as you've said "trusting the process" than simply having topnotch writing skills. Just like everything else, time is needed for growth or if you can't wait, you facilitate it with money. But even with ones money flowing like an ocean, you still need to go through the process of learning and following instructions to identify where you must channel it into.

Those that see beyond their present state and see what there Hive account may become in few years to come, usually do better.

Yeah! So nothing is better than follow instructions so we don't go the wrong way. Writing skills is a plus but thinking it is enough to thrive on Hive is more like a joke to my ears.

Those that see beyond their present state and see what there Hive account may become in few years to come, usually do better.

Thank you, brother! you have stated it clearly...

I agree with everything stated here. Is there even more to say?, you articulated it so beautifully.
One problem I have is I wish I came to hive with an active mentor that could show me the way and give me some tips. It makes it so much easier.
I unfortunately had to navigate the platform alone and although it helps in a way because if you make a mistake, you get to learn from it. But it also makes the learning process slow.
There are so many things I have had to discover on my own at a later time, usually it is too late even.
You, @starstrings01, are one of the people on hive that has made my learning process a whole lot easier. Because of helpful posts like this.
As you continue to help others, may paths continuously open for you, and may things work in your favour, Amen.

Just like you, I came to Hive without an active mentor. I had to navigate alone and discover some things for myself. I later found people that helped and told me some things about Hive. This helped me a lot...

It's always hard to follow instructions, especially when they are seen as simple ones. You are absolutely right, the only way for us to strive is if we can follow instructions, whether big or small. Being curious is something that also helps a lot because when you are curious about something, you always want to clear your curiosity by asking questions or trying new things.

I'm so honored to have read this from you, I will do well to keep this in mind, I hope I put it to practice.

@hopestylist… You are a boss lady already. You probably know all these before now.

She manages to impress me, a future dolphin and orca

As you don pass orca level, you be our future whale..

Technically orca is 55k and I'm nowhere near there. So, I'm a dolphin like you.

No worries brother, I don dey see 55k for your wallet already.. Na just few months remain...

I guess I have but this is also a reminder and also an encouragement to me.

For me, you are a great mentor to have brought some people here and they are doing great. One of them is @olujay
Who could have believed he wasn't a writer before joining Hive? The guy is now so good and I admire that in him. That is a proof that he listened and followed directions to be the best.

One thing about a great Platform like Hive is the willingness to thrive to be the best by not relying on your own ability when you could have opened up in areas you aren't getting it right. One cannot make it here alone except he or she asks for directions and get answers to his or her questions on how to be best here.

One cannot make it here alone except he or she asks for directions and get answers to his or her questions on how to be best here.

In life generally, we need help from someone to progress. So having the idea that our knowledge is sufficient would take us on a long tour before arriving at where we want.

For me, you are a great mentor to have brought some people here and they are doing great. One of them is @olujay

I am very much glad... Thank you!

Ayyy... thank you so much!πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ

I. Am. Disappointed.
I am Disappointed by this article @starstring01....... I was thinking that you were going to give some SIMPLE INSTRUCTION in the article but you didn't πŸ™„. Is it a kind of a prank 🀨.......
!LOLZ.

Don't mind. Just kidding. You are always there providing guides and instructions I know.

Instructions are often simple and easily understandable but why people fail to act upon them is because the process is difficult. We often want quick results so we fail. Actually, the success stories are inspiring and seem easy to follow but the route to success is tiresome that tests us in multiple ways.

Lol.. I am glad that it is well noticed that I give guides and instructions. Means my time was not wasted..

Yes oh! I support you on that the route to success is very tiresome, it requires quite a lot of consistency and persistence so I don't always blame people if they try to seek quick methods towards getting something. Even me, at some times I feel this way.

Why wouldn't your efforts be noticed. They are quite loud and clear.

Keep it up, buddy

Thanks a lot @amberkashif

πŸ˜€

Preach brother! I didn’t know you signed ksam and olujay. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting these two gentlemen, and they’re both great writers now, even if they didn’t start out as one. Like I always say, olujay is a movie review icon and sam is an iconic lion as well. You did a great job getting them here.

Yeah I signed them both! They found their niches and developed on it. They were curious, they asked questions and they learned.

Funny thing is I gave Olujay and idea on how to make his review and he came back with something more better. Now I see many blogs writing their reviews like the way OLUJAY makes his. Baba is an Icon already.

Ksam! Has always been astonishing after he came back from hive. At first he left but I had to talk to him again about it. Then he came with a different spirit and a growth mindset.

Haha I’m about to add to the list of people that writes movie reviews on Olujay’s review template. Mans is just good!

I’m glad Sam stayed. He’s doing very well in the leofinance community. I watch him from a distance.

You should be proud bro. You did a great job onboarding those two.

You don’t need to add a list. I see it a lot (the list would be long), it is very recognizable πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚β€¦

You should be proud bro. You did a great job onboarding those two.

Definitely I am. Thanks for the nice words…

Like you said if someone follows instructions it will be very easy to grow here
And as for people looking for shortcut to grow I believe they are not determine to grow because if they are determined no matter how hard it looks they will try their best

I am not a good writer and am not a multitask person but with the little I can do I make sure I do my best
Meanwhile the person that brought me here told me all the rules and regulations of this platform which I don't see that as a barrier for someone to quit

As long as my content is quality I believe I can grow here

As long as my content is quality I believe I can grow here

Having quality content definitely a good way to grow on Hive. Also, you should check the pinned post on my blog. It should help you on your journey in Hive.

Oh ok I will definitely check that out
Thanks for this
I really appreciate your help buddy

My grandfather always say something, "If you want the most of men to fail, give simple instructions, They'll take it lightly and fail"

He also says something about most blacks... "That if you want to hide knowledge from them, put it into writing"

The reason why I said this is, Many (especially those that need it) won't read this post to the end and will feel it's not necessary.
Well, I really appreciate the fact that you keep doing your best to help others on this Blockchain.

The truth simply stands at following "simple instructions"
I'm also happy and I feel honoured about the mention brother..

@olujay, and @ksam should be too!
Hope your day is going well brother?

I think in the end, people who fail to adhere to instructions actually feel they have more insight and understanding about the "situation." It is then sad that they should be considered "blinder" than a blind man as they fail to see their ignorance.

Like my physics teacher in secondary school often said, "Common sense is not common."

Common sense is not common πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ’”

He also says something about most blacks... "That if you want to hide knowledge from them, put it into writing"

This stuff is popular as they say we don't like reading but yet we are smart.

I'm also happy and I feel honoured about the mention brother..

The mention is well deserved my brother.

Hope your day is going well brother?

We thank God brother.

If only we are disciplined enough to follow instructions, we wouldn't ride on the rough path here, it might look uneasy but that's a simple truth; following instructions πŸ‘Œ

I am never a writer before coming here, and still not a good writer but I am learning gradually by reading from other amazing writers.

Any person who is determined to succeed "must" ask questions. Being curious helps one to be more clarified and in the process, he or she learns more.
Many thanks for these great tips hereπŸ‘πŸ˜‡

My point well explaiined on this comment. You put the whole post down in clear terms. follow instructions to avoid passing through rough paths . Curiosity gets one ahead and get us to know things because a curious person would always ask questions.

I cannot count the many questions I bugged @ starstrings01 with questions when I first joined Hive. I wanted to know everything! I went to great lenghts to learn more about the system, simply because I was keen on being better in any good way I can.

The importance of inquiring cannot be overemphasized. It is how we'd get better.

I can't agree less on this
You can call me Mrs questionair in hive πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

When we talk about someone doing well on hive, we are saying that they are growing, earning, making connections with people, enjoying their time, and making a positive impact on the blockchain. If this isn't happening, they are not doing well on the blockchain.

Now, to the question, does one need to be a good writer before one can prosper here? Just as you said, the answer is No, it requires more than that. In simple words, it is to follow instructions.

What are the instructions? In my opinion, it is to make yourself known to be an author who posts quality content. Engage as much as possible with others on the blockchain, make connections, have fun as much as you can, participate in contests and be consistent even when it feels like there are no results. You never know when all the hard work will pay off. It is a matter of being consistent.

I am sure there would be more amongst others and the ones I have mentioned, and I would like to know them too.

This is very true. Even though I was a writer before I joined hive, I'm 3 months old and I've come to realize that writers (especially formal writers) struggle on hive. I learned to take hive as a social network, share my, thoughts, knowledge, memories on hive and all. Just how we do on Instagram and Facebook. I learned to take it as a daily thing. Even though I'm still trying to write every day, I make sure I visit the app every day to read more and more.
However, I expected you'd share so Mn me tips on how to strive to succeed on hive. I didn't see any till the end of your message other than the newbie initiative.

So this is me asking; What are the things I can do on hive that can make successful?

Secondly, I read that you started the newbie initiative. I visited the page and saw that the application has been closed and tutoring is ongoing. I'd love to join the next batch.

What can I do to join? What can I do to increase my chances of being qualified?

Because I'm very curious and you gave a go-ahead to ask questions. lol. Here I amπŸ™‚

So this is me asking; What are the things I can do on hive that can make successful?

You would find the answer to this question in the pinned post on my blog.

What can I do to join? What can I do to increase my chances of being qualified?

You need to make sure you have been verified in the Hive Learners community.

Sorry it took a while to answer your questions...

Alright. I’ll check your pinned post concerning that.

I once read the verification process on hive learners. I’ll go back to it. Has to do with taking a photo with your username on a paper right?

LEO Power Up Day - October 15, 2022

Lol, I couldn't help but laugh at the assumption that someone would do well on hive because they are good writers already..one thing I've learned about Hive is that this ecosystem is really unpredictable..you might think yourself vast in knowledge and when you come here you'll see how little you'll become..Hive is like the world itself..not the smartest or most knowledgeable people succeed but the ones who actually are patient, attentive and willing to push till the end...cutting through the corners doesn't help anyone...you have the chance to improve and learn how the whole ecosystem works, it's a gradual process..being vast in english can help you stand out but you'll have to build that relationship that'll help you grow... don't think it's that easy but its not that hard...it's just takes unlearning what you've learnt and being consistent..

Talkin about asking questions...are you and olujay related??... because I couldn't help notice a striking resemblance between you both..and there's also this striking zeal for greatness...I want to look like you both 😩😩😩

Geez!!!
Who are you?
Oh my God.... What an intelligence!πŸ”₯

Like for real, I like your analysis.. especially where you said: Hive is that this ecosystem is really unpredictable..you might think yourself vast in knowledge and when you come here you'll see how little you'll become

That is so true, and I'm sure people that have grown well on hive knew this.
I hope people especially (newbies) get to see this comment of yours to learn one or two.

How are you today pal?

Geez!!!
Who are you?
Oh my God.... What an intelligence!πŸ”₯

Well, I'm just a mere vessel, learning from the gods themselves..lol it's just me, chinco and you flatter me too much πŸ˜‚

That is so true, and I'm sure people that have grown well on hive knew this.
I hope people especially (newbies) get to see this comment of yours to learn one or two.

Yeahh, a lot of people had to find this out in different ways...newbies surely have a good mentor here....in the personal of my boss starStrings, he's making sure they know the right things and so the right things..

I'm tired, slept late and woke up really early... thanks for asking...how are you doing though?

Chinco, you are doing well.
It's nice coming across your content though!

I'm also doing very well... Slept for only 5 hours because I was up yesterday night doing stuffs on my pc.

Building relationships is the key to Hive. There is no way that one can grow without having to build a circle around.

About OLUJAY, he is my brother from another mother.

Wow. This is a whole lot of sense in one piece...where do I start from? The middle?

Very well, when I was spoken to about Hive too, I had the same notion that I was not a writer of that calibre. As in I write some 10 words piece maybe twice a year but for Hive? I felt myself saying No. But you guys then elucidate on the fact that that was not the issue. Well, like you mentioned, I did a lot of asking. You can ask @monioluwa πŸ˜…, I choked him with that!

Everything boils down to, as you said, following simple instructions. I do say that life is not hard, it is just where you are that is. That is why those who had mentors when they came on board don't know what baba God has done for them, honestly.

Those three musketeers you mentioned, I must confess, are real gees. They are prominent in their respective niches. For example, Olujay rules in the world of movie reviews and other things.

On the low, one main thing to grow here is that you take charge of the room to learn. Just yesterday, a friend of mine who is a write but not on Hive, told me that my writing has changed even more than when I got on Hive. I felt myself blushing in a masculine way. But that's the real deal too - improvement.

Well done, comrade @starstrings01

I joined this platform with an empty brain... not to say I have a filled brain now, but to say that overtime, I have come to understand certain things about Hive. And how else could I have done so? ...by your mentorship, my curiosity and observation, and, of course, my attempts.

That is one of the effect Hive does on you. You were not good on Hive but now you have gotten better over time. The same went for me, I was way worst than now and now, I can write a descriptive essay of my day very easily. I got better too.
