HIVE BOOTCAMP - AUGUST EDITION DAY 3

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Welcome to the third session of the Hive Bootcamp, where I served as the main speaker. I decided to speak about plagiarism because it is one of the most crucial Hive rules that all new users must be aware of.

The video is a 22-minute recording of me speaking on the following subjects:

  • Hive's stance on Plagiarism
  • Consequences of Plagiarism
  • How to add sources to images gotten online
  • Sites to get free images

I made sure to point out that there is a POLICE FORCE on Hive that is responsible for checking for plagiarized posts and that they should not even consider plagiarizing. They should instead write about their emotions and anything that inspires them.

One of the meeting's newcomers raised the question of whether he would be prohibited from writing about certain online content if he saw it and expressed an interest in doing so. due to the fact that the author has already written on it.

I simply responded that not everyone can see things the same way; he might have additions to make or see things from a different angle than the author does. I said he could write about the same subject, but it should only reflect his feelings and thoughts without referencing the author's work. It would also be best if he gave credit to the author from whom he may have drawn inspiration so that he is not accused of plagiarizing.

Please feel free to watch the video to see additional details. I apologize for the noise in the video; the headphones I was wearing while recording are to blame. They are so terrible, and I had no idea. Thank you for watching!

Interesting! You really had to talk at length on the issue of plagiarism. The shortcut disease that's plaguing everyone.

yes oh! it lengthy talk is really necessary

Hehehe, you are totally right, plagiarism is something that can even happen to the best of the best because of just a little mistake, there was need to stress on the issue and @starstrings01 did a really good job with it.

Well done Sir, hope you eat good food after that lecture oo? Smiles.

This is really interesting oo, I enjoyed the lectures on plagiarism and sourcing.

Well I have a question, how can you know if an image is watermarked? Because I've been hearing of it a lot and it's like I've used a lot of watermarked photos self. So what if I use that watermark photo with source, what is the consequences, is it the same as someone that plagiarized or someone that didn't source the images?

The aspect of creating a content from others content was well understood and I think that happens to me a lot.

This is a great topic you have analysed here because a lot of hive users especially the newbies, tends to get involved plagiarism and in most cases it can be unintentionally.

I believe this video will go a long way in educating both the newbies and existing members on dangers of plagiarism on hive.

Nice video setting, I loved the way you made use of those slides in analysing each subject you mentioned, even if a person is unable to flow with the voice over, he or she can always read from those slides. That is a product of good sense of creativity.

Maybe someday I will learn up to meet this standard, lol.

Great work bro.

Yes that's right, some of us were ignorant of these things and it's a really great privilege to be here listening to these lectures and I know so many people that come across this will benefit from it a whole lot.

That's why it's always good to make sure to read very well and ask questions so you can learn faster, some of these newbies are not eager to learn that's why they end up falling prey to the act of plagiarism even as others are genuinely ignorant.

Yeah, some people might not know what plagiarism is and it is very important for it to be treated since they come from a web that doesn't care where they share their content from or who the original owners of the content are.

For the video editing, I think the credits should go to @monioluwa and @olujay. They did more work on it than I did. I don't think this project would ever exist without them.

Maybe someday I will learn up to meet this standard, lol.

After you are done whining. feel free to tell me

That's true, most of us came from a place were we don't even know there's a word called plagiarism. I remember the first time I was told the meaning of plagiarism I was like ah that means I'm a guru at it ever since but then it was never frown at.

I'm really happy that there are platforms like hive that frowns against it because it makes so many people very lazy to make good use of their brains.

The video editing was really superb and I'll say you all did a really good job with it.
