Hivechess Tournament Season 13 Round 1: @maestroask was the new winner!

in #hive-1572862 years ago

Dear chess fans,

the first round of Season 13 started yesterday with a 4+1 Swiss arena. 38 players had participated - a new record! In fact there were even 46 registered, but 8 of them played less than 3 games. We had also - next to quite a lot of new players - an IM joining Hivechess, @maestroask (Odnoobraz_bcm on Lichess)! Welcome to All!

And @maestroask immediately took the lead by convincingly scoring 7/7, with a performance of 2699, one point ahead of our multi-champion @sawko and @tony1294 as third. Congratulations!

I played totally ridiculously yesterday and had consequently my all time worst result, rank 26. In my game against @samostically I had even pretty good chances, but in this position with Black I didn´t find a good continuation but played R8h3?? after which White played Bf1 with a double attack on h3 and a7!
What would have been the best move instead?

Black to play and win

The biggest upset in round 1 was the victory of @lighteye against @samostically who had 480 rating points more (link to the game) where @samostically started ambitously (or carelessly?) an attack and @lighteye defended very well and later grabbed an exchange and could exchange pieces - no chance for @samostically to fight back. So the first special price, 1 Hive and 5 LEO, goes to @lighteye (will be paid out at the end of the season). There was one game with a slightly higher upset (488, by Alireza_1342), but I don´t know the Hive name of this player, and in such a case the next one with a known Hive name will be considered.

The rules you can look up in the S13 announcement post.

4 new players ended up in the Top 10! With all the new players this will be a very interesting - and strong - season, maybe the strongest ever. I hope that at least some of them will play regularly and share their Hive usernames (or register to Hive).

See you all next week - and keep practicing!

Interesting tournament! I hope to finish and be able to play all the valid ones! I'll give it my all, round after round.

Greetings and a big hug to the entire chess community

WOW! The biggest hive chess tournament ever and it's the only one I ever missed :). This must be sign for my best season :).

And I was already concerned. You have NEVER EVER missed a tournament!

Hi guys, i came across this tournament today and i wanna participate too if possible!
My Lichess profile is: https://lichess.org/@/ptmaker

Welcome to the team! Next round is starting this Friday, watch out for the announcement post in my blog!

Sure! Thank you for the welcome game ;)

Nothing to thank! Just saw that you had 0 games, so I thought at least one would be good 😃.

1 game - 1 loss ehehe at least against a very good player! Cant wait for the tournament!

Hehehe, I played terribly. After Bf1, I don't think black is winning, I can agree black is better but certainly not winning.

I did a video yesterday highlighting some games. Congratulations to the winners and also to @lighteye who started very well against me. It was a very good game.

The IM Blitz rating is way out of our league, Maybe CM @sawko could have gotten a result against him, He dominated the other games and would be hard to stop. Only the light eye system can save if he misses sometimes.

Yes, I think it's the toughest ever.

Yes, a rare occasion where I didn’t make any blunder happened in our game @samostically. Thank you for your nice words.

Sure, White is better. I meant if I had played the correct move instead R8h3, then Black is winning.

Yes Nd5! And I would struggle. Good game. We both had our worst performances. I think my chess is becoming bad or my style is easier to predictable now.

Good to see the season back. I will join next week.

wow, i just got to know that the season is back. Am in. lets see how it goes.

Great start of the season.

We had also - next to quite a lot of new players - an IM joining Hivechess, @maestroask (Odnoobraz_bcm on Lichess)! Welcome to All!

It's good to have an IM on board. Could we please know they're name? I checked that Lichess account but it isn't linked to a title. How do you know they're an IM as you say?

He told me when I asked, in the comments of the announcement post.

I noticed that.

It's a big claim, @stayoutoftherz. Have you thought that it should take more than just their word for it, especially if you're compromising your own content?

And btw, did you assume it's a "he" or you know more about the player so you know their gender?

I'm not saying it's not true their an IM, I'm saying that it hasn't been verified. I know some people find my questions and suggestions somewhat irritating, but they fail to understand I'm just trying to help.

This link you're providing points to a different Lichess account, other than the one used in the tournament. Notice that I can create a Lichess account by the name of Vladimir Dobrov and pretend I'm him.

So, how can we know that these two accounts belong to the same player?

In case you're new to Hive, notice that in this social network bad practices such as identity theft are common and it's a problem the whole community is dealing with. That's why you're often asked to create an introduction post and provide further information to back up your claims.

Oh, you asked about my name and I gave answer. Anyone in doubt can just ask me via Lichess message. :)

congrats to the winners
it is nice to participate again in the Hive Chess Tournament
@stayoutoftherz you found way to make tournament and format even more interesting
Out of seven games only one player lower than my rating but it was fun
maybe even upset bonus was close
nice and big group of chess enjoyers :)

That was fantastic strong tournament, where I had 7 opponents with average ELO over 2000!

My God, this is going to be an interesting season 😁

Congratulations!
