Reminder: Round 5 of the Hivechess Tournament S13 , Friday 19h GMT

in #hive-1572862 years ago

Dear chess fans!

the 5th round of S13 is played this Friday, 30th Sep., 19h GMT, as usual.
The current standings after 4 rounds you can find here.

After some early draws in the last round I was about to add a new rule to sanction this behavior (in high-level tournaments early draws are forbidden as well), but for now I forego it. But if I see again a draw after 2 moves or so, a new rule will be put in play quickly.

Mode: 4+1 (4 minutes per game, 1 sec. increment), 7 rounds Swiss tournament

Tournament Link: https://lichess.org/swiss/RI1c8KpG

The price pool contains already app. 398 Hive plus 506 LEO!

Rules

  • Players of all skill levels are welcome, from newbies to experts, you just need a free Lichess-account and join our team in Lichess here!
  • The season goes over 10 rounds, every Friday is one round.
  • Time mode is varying (5+0, 3+2, 2+1,...) and sometimes berserking is not allowed.
  • The winner of each round gets the number of points equaling the number of players in that round, the second ranked one point less and so forth until the one on the bottom of the table who gets one point. In order to be counted, at least 3 games must have been played. Draws before move 25 will be sanctioned.
  • Occasionally a round may be divided into 2 skill classes.
  • In case two players have the same number of points, the one who played less rounds is first. If that is equal too, then the average tournament performance decides.
  • The worst result from the season in terms of points achieved will not be counted.
  • PAYOUT: The tournament points are summed up. 70% of all Hivechess-related post rewards go to the price pool (PP). The tournament winner will get 50 Hive as bonus, the runner-up 25, the third 10 and the rest of the PP (minus 30) is divided among all players equally (40%) and according to the number of tournament points achieved (60%). 40% participation is required in order to qualify for the prices.
  • There will be special prices of 10 Hive plus 50 LEO each for the highest performance in relation to the own rating (counted by averaging the rating after the first and the last round) and for the most rating points gained during the tournament (counted from after first to last participation). If a player would qualify for both prices, he still gets 10 Hive /50 LEO only and the second placed of each score gets 5/25.
  • There will be a special price of 1 Hive plus 5 LEO in each round for the game won with the biggest upset in rating difference.
  • If I don´t know your Hive username, you won´t be considered for prices, so please let me know your Hive name in the comments! Group or badge accounts can participate but are not qualified for prices! Only individuals can get prices.

Please share this announcement among your (chess) friends and colleagues!
The more participate, the more fun! And maybe some are even interested to join Hive and it´s Chess Community?

See you on Friday and good luck to all!

In the cheating drama, Magnus Carlsen on Monday has released via Twitter this statement:
image.png

It created also quite some headlines in the mainstream media:
image.png
source: BBC

On one hand he didn´t show any proof, but some people have analyzed Hans Niemann´s games and found a suspicious perfection:

1574780445744668673?s=20&t=e-Wm9uA0hZZYQcbUQucG9Q twitter metadata:dHlfam9oYW5uZXN8fGh0dHBzOi8vdHdpdHRlci5jb20vdHlfam9oYW5uZXMvc3RhdHVzLzE1NzQ3ODA0NDU3NDQ2Njg2NzM/cz0yMCZ0PWUtV205dUEwaFpaWVFjYlVRdWNHOVF8 ~~~

PS: Strongest evidence for cheating in this video by a French FM:

PPS: It seems I have overestimated the usefuleness of Yosha´s video. A reddit indicates that those Chessbase Scores from Niemann have been manipulated to frame him.

Sort:

Another tournament with lots of time. Maybe I'll be able to try berserk against lower-rated players.

Also this whole Nieman situation. How does one play the top engine move 30- 40 times? It's either he's cheating ( most likely), Or he's just taken chess to another level.

!PIZZA

Omg! The price pool is gonna be alot this season. Thanks to the sponsors and people who have made this possible.

Magnus... Uhm, I'm just watching and reserving my comments Hehehe.

Hi! Thanks... I'll be there!

PIZZA!

You can now send $PIZZA tips in Discord via tip.cc!

I had connection problems, was on my way to a round of a chess tournament, practically playing while crossing the streets. If that behavior had been for my benefit, I would surely not have placed ninth.

Congratulations!

Good ! I wlll be in!
What about surrender from first move to much stronger opponent with difference in ELO > 300 ?
Lichess has problems with honest pairing and those who has rating > 2000 have beneft when they play against players with < 1600 rating.

That's why it can be better for weeker player to give up at once against some GM in order to have time (and possibility to win points) with almost equal by ELO opponent. With those who has not > 200 points advantage in rating.

So, the question is : Will the early surrender be also punished?

I think lichess will send warning if you surrender more games - they will ask for reason

The reason is quite simple - lichess bug in parings in tournaments. But anyway I took decision to not give up)

I think it's best to still try, you never know you may shock the opponent, or at least learn something new.

No, this is not foreseen currently.
But I don´t recommend it, it is always good to try to play them. If you, after each loss, can identify just one mistake you made and try to not make it next time, your play will for sure improve over time!

I hope to have a better performance than previous tournaments
We go again Friday!
