How long can you stare at your wife?

The statement from Larson and Toubro chairman SN Subrhamanyam stir a controversy around the corporate world by advocating a 90 hrs work week schedule. It includes the working schedule on Sunday as well. "90 hours a week"? That sounds so unreal. And only possible at the expense of all the comfort and leaving behind the #worklife balance of every employee. This is the transcript of his interview :

“I regret I am not able to make you work on Sundays. If I can make you work on Sundays, I will be more happy, because I work on Sundays. What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? How long can the wives stare at their husbands? Come on, get to the office and start working,"

A country where youth, middle age, and elderly are unhealthy, we don't get Olympic gold medal, youth are unemployed , all we need an advisor like him, so that our peoole suffer at the cost of profit for such rich people. I was wondering can working long hours allow us to achieve more success in life.

According to some research I read over the internet, the ideal working hours are considered to be around 35-40 hours per week with a typical 8-hour workday, as exceeding this can lead to decreased productivity and increased stress due to burnout. The ideal number can vary depending on individual factors like job type and personal lifestyle. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is crucial, and exceeding ideal working hours can negatively impact personal life. The ideal work hours can differ based on the nature of work, personal preferences, and individual capacity. Studies show that working significantly beyond 40 hours per week does not result in a proportional increase in productivity.

When it comes to Indian workfore they are ready to go an extra mile for something extra. A little extra pay may pull the employee to work more. I have been to such situation, where the company offers free meals and extra pay to work on Sunday. I noticed that employee shows interest in begining but soon in a short duration they hesitate to continue. They started to seek some lersonal time outside the office hours. In case they were forced then their impact will reflect on the productivity.

Simply working long hours does not guarantee we will achieve our desired results. While hard work is important, factors like strategy, efficiency, and proper planning are also crucial to attaining the outcomes we want, meaning just putting in long hours might not be enough on its own. Every person have their life beyond the office, continously working for more hours they leave behind their personal happiness that constitutes of family, friends and relatives.

Working long hours without focus or a clear plan can lead to burnout and reduced productivity, impacting the quality of our work. Sometimes, achieving desired results depends on external factors beyond our control, even if we work diligently. To maximize our chances of success, focus on developing efficient strategies, managing our time well, and setting clear goals.

In my personal opinion, Work-life balance isn't optional, it's essential. Working hard and smart is what I believe in. Even a machine need some rest to function smoothly, then why not human being. The corporate bosses always aims at maximizing the profit, not matter how much the employee drills to perform. But now as thr statement came in, the sounds will echo for long.

In good faith - Peace!
