The News

Well that was an interesting week. $HIVE saw a lot more trading and went up some more. I am liking this trend and the fact that it broke away from the 'blue one'. $LEO is joining the fun too.

Prices from @coingecko

I do think $HIVE needs to rank much higher. Being down around 500th is not so great. That could be something to do with all the trashy memecoins that have no real value. I get that people want to 100x their money in a short time, but most of those will crash and burn. With Hive you have a chance of steady growth and the opportunity to earn. If people want to post about memecoins here then they are free to do so, but should not expect much support from me.

We are used to drama here and there was some sniping amongst the witnesses this week. That is a vital job that carries some responsibilities. If people are voting you up then you need to ensure that your node is working properly. As a Hiver you ought to check that the witnesses you vote for are active. I can see a couple in the top 100 that have done nothing in a year or more, but most seem to be up to date. If you are not sure who to vote for then you can set someone as a proxy. You should also vote on some proposals that you think deserve funds.

I do think we need debate around what the witnesses do, but it should not get personal. These are mostly individuals and they will disagree on some things. What should matter is what is good for Hive.

Friday Follows

  • @planetauto do great car reviews and I envy all the vehicles they get to drive. They have great video skills and also applied this to music. They are also looking to organise a meetup next year.
  • @gillianpearce is someone I have met a few times and she posts her arty projects.
  • @makerhacks has been posting some tips on interacting with Hive via Python scripts. I have some experience of this and it has lots of potential.
  • @thedessertlinux has some tips on living on crypto.
  • @alonicus posted a list of Hive dapps. There are so many out there so we should all find something useful.

I am giving a bigger share of the post rewards to @commentrewarder so that any of these people can get more if they comment.

The Dog House

I know some people like this section. Recently there have been some rogue accounts copying content. These need to be downvoted to cancel any rewards and also to lower their reputation to make it obvious that they are not genuine.

We have to be vigilant to prevent Hive being corrupted. If you see something dodgy then report it. New accounts may be asked to verify themselves, so do not be put off by that. You may just need to mention Hive on your other social media. Honesty is the best policy.

The End

We are rapidly approaching the end of the year and I hope your mood is improved by the better $HIVE price. If you have been building your stake then it should be looking good. I am not against people cashing out if they need it, but we need more folk with a decent stake to spread the power.

I just hit a target for the year and there is time to go further. I may well spend some of that next year if I think it is worth it. We all deserve to treat ourselves sometimes.

I just did some double checking of my witness votes the other day, so it is good that all of this was brought to light recently. I need to check that more frequently.

Indeed I think it has to do with a lot of vaporware in the rankings.. clogging up the top 100-200 pushing coins like Hive way up in the charts.. though the vaporware coins will drop back into the top 1000s once their funding dries up..

So as long as Hive holds its ranking or gets better I think it will all work its self out.

$HIVE just keeps ticking along, but at some point it needs to get people more excited. We will be in a good place when that happens.

@steevc, you're rewarding 17 replies from this discussion thread.

Hive - Electroneum both excellent at what they do, and both in need of way more recognition, it's addictive watching the charts, maybe too addictive, fun nether the less - are you aware of ETN?
& thank you for the kind words and sharing and even moreso the appreciation you have for Planetauto life:)

I've not heard of Electroneum. Are you making use of it? May be worth posting about. It would be cool if Hive became the default place for discussing all crypto.

!BEER

ETN uses phone number for login, last time I checked 😕

It's a lot more advanced since then I have the app on my phone it's email, password and pass code, that must be some time ago likely when you could mine on phones :)

They r centralized and blocked me for no apparent reason.

What's in it for the world if they can censor someone?

So you have an online wallet or paper one? they are rolling out more features for decentralisation, a new white paper has just been published too, do you have a Stake in ETN :)

When ETN was new, I used to mine some ETN on my mobile and used ETN to get mobile recharge. Then i got blocked and no way to contact support.

It was the time I stopped checking ETN updates and it left a negative impression about ETN.

Not great we lost a chunk at Cryptopia, since then it's massively evolved. It'll be interesting where it leads.

Check it out Dude, it's been around since 2017 and yes it has multiple application and its British from Oxford, i'd love to hear your opinion, good idea with a space to discuss crytpo.

@bilpcoinbpc, sorry! You need more $WRD to use this command.

The minimum requirement is 50.0 WRD balance.

More $WRD is available from Hive-Engine or Tribaldex

Hey @planetauto, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

Did you know that <a href='https://dcity.io/cityyou can use BEER at dCity game to buy cards to rule the world.

Thanks for the mention Steve. It's much appreciated although it seems to be very quiet around HIve these days. People preparing for the holidays perhaps.

I'll check out a couple of the mentions too which seem to fit with my interests.

I wish their was more discussion between the witnesses and the community too. To me it seems they are their own little group with all the power and without a common way forward.

Where can we find out what they are actually doing to support Hive beyond running servers?

Some of them do post, so it's worth following them. I think others are just not that social, but they may do a good job anyway. You can always support those who you do see doing good stuff.

Yeah. I do check them from time to time. And remove votes from those missing blocks or not updating but I'm out of the loop in terms of what most of them are doing. Even if they aren't that social it would be good if there was a general summary somewhere, even if it was just once a quarter, where they all wrote a paragraph on what they were up to.

It would be good to see more reports from them. The nearest I can see is the top 20 witness feed in peakd.

I didn't know there was such a thing. I'll go and check it out . . .

Interesting. I've subscribed to it and to the Hive Governance community although it's not very active.

Hey @steevc , i recently back in writing again. As always thank you for sharing useful content . Following those username that you've mentioned as they can add value to broaden my horizons 😊💪

That's part of the reason I have done these posts for years. None of us can see all that happens on Hive.

I do think we need debate around what the witnesses do

At the very minimum, the requirement is:

  • Run the latest hardfork.
  • Promptly disable your witness if it fails or have systems in place to do this automatically
  • Run a price feed keeping it up to date.

That is it. The absolute minimum. There are some who even fail to do this, leo finance in this instance of drama was one such witness although as of now they have finally disabled their witness and are likely fixing up their servers.

Recommended requirements in my opinion in addition to the minimum:

  • Have an understanding of the functions of hive and how it's systems work.
  • Be able to understand and validate code change. (not necessarily meaning knowing C++)
  • Be active in development discussions, give feedback on changes. effectively be in the know.

Everything else is just bonus points. Leo finance has a lot of bonus points. but only if they can actually provide the minimum requirements.

Communicating what you do is important too. A lot of witnesses never post.

Memecoins have a cycle or two ahead of them - the early adopters need to hype them and dump. Once everyone gets annoyed of this, they will fall to oblivion.

Hive, on the other hand, is going to stand the test of time ;)

We've survived a few cycles. Sometimes the new shiny thing is not so great.

Hi, @godfish,

This post has been voted on by @darkcloaks because you are an active member of the Darkcloaks gaming community.

Get started with Darkcloaks today, and follow us on Inleo for the latest updates.

Thanks for the mention ! The Dapp list is very much a work in progress, but I'll keep hunting down apps until I've got all the ones I can find 😀

Maybe I should feature some dapps on these posts. I use a fair few.

Good idea ! I must admit that for a lot of them, I'm just skimming the surface so far, just to get an idea of what they do. In-depth knowledge from someone who actually uses them would be an awesome addition !

Thanks for the Follow Friday! I tracked the post with the list of dapps too, but unfortunately the table is not fully visible on Hive interfaces (I think it was imported from Excel or something like that).

He's still working on it and may update the post.

I know. I'll still keep an eye on it, because it's useful. But it would help if all columns are visible.

You mentioned some time ago you can set up Hive accounts, I have a yound lad who i met on TT who would like to join, what do you need from me to set him up please? He'd like his channel to be called Joshua The Journey he's based in Nigeria.

I'll get back to you on this. If you use peakd I can send the keys over the chat

Yes, we do and thank you

It won't let us login, login failed any ideas PS i'm an Elephant...that will make sense at some point

I'm under the same name on Discord too.

I just tried to reply to your message, but got an error. Will look later.

ohhhh, ah ok cool, Discord it is :)
