I have not done one of these posts in a while. There are a few shows we finished in the last couple of months, so I will go through those.

The Umbrella Academy

This was the final season of this Netflix show. My daughter got me into it as she is a fan of Gerard Way (of My Chemical Romance) who created the original comic it is based on. I have to say that I have enjoyed it. It is about a group of young people with special powers, but they have real personal issues. I have read the comics and the show is only loosely based on them. This season brings it all to a conclusion without fully explaining everything, but that is okay as the journey was fun. We have seen these characters grow up over a few years. One (Elliot Page) has transitioned to male in real life and in the show. That was handled well.

I like shows to have a definite end rather than being dragged out indefinitely.

Kaos

Also on Netflix this is a re-telling of ancient Greek myths as Zeus suspects his family will fall. It is set in a version of modern times where those gods are still worshipped. We have Orpheus journeying to the underworld to retrieve his lover, who may not love him back. I knew enough of the myths to pick up on who various characters were, but I would still like to read more of them. It is pretty brutal, but very good with Jeff Goldblum enjoying himself in the lead role. Nice to see a few Brits in there too. This is one my other half and I both enjoyed, but it seems there will not be a second season despite leaving various plots hanging. We have a few shows we bond over, but then watch others alone. She was not into Umbrella Academy or some of the Star Wars and Marvel (with exceptions).

Agatha All Along

I said my other half is not so into Marvel, but she did like Wandavision and I got her into the Deadpool movies that she enjoyed. This is a sequel to Wandavision on Disney+ with ancient witch Agatha Harkness trying to regain her powers with the help of some other witches. It has a different tone to the general Marvel superhero shows with a bit more humour, but it does get quite dark. It is all about the magic and the interaction of the characters who each have their own agendas. Having been to Salem last year it had extra resonance with us even though we do not believe in the magical part. With Marvel you have to expect that the story will continue in some form, but they spread it across movies and TV.

Only Murders In The Building

This star-studded show is into its fourth season on Disney+. We were left with yet another murder at the end of season three that needs investigating. The podcast run by the leads (Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez) is being turned into a movie, so we get to meet the real actors who will play them in that. It all gets a bit meta at times as they refer to the podcast seasons that match the show. It it fairly light stuff, but entertaining. I think another season is planned.

Ludwig

We do watch some British shows too and this one is from the BBC. It stars David Mitchell as a puzzle setter John Taylor (aka Ludwig) whose identical twin police detective brother James has gone missing. James's wife (Anna Maxwell Martin) asks John to impersonate his brother to recover information from the police station, but he gets dragged into murder investigations that he manages to solve with his puzzle skills. It is a different type of puzzle each time. It is set in Cambridge, which is a place we know well, so that adds to the fun. It is a clever show with some nice twists. There is some appropriate Beethoven music in the soundtrack to continue that theme. The Guardian even had a crossword set by Ludwig. I had a look, but it was too tricky for me. I like a cryptic, but some are on a different level. This show should be back for more puzzles.

Other viewing

I am still working my way through Game of Thrones and am up to season five now. I know people say the last couple are not so good, but I have a way to go yet. I also got to see some of the locations in Split at Hivefest.

We are on the final season of Young Sheldon. This spin-off from The Big Bang Theory has been quite touching. It is another where we have seen a young cast grow up.

We quite like the Lego Masters shows where teams build amazing creations on a theme. We have mainly watched the ones from Australia and New Zealand, but there are more on the Channel 4 streaming platform.

I sometimes think I do not watch that much TV as I spend a lot of time online, but I do see a fair bit. At least a few things have ended so that frees up some time. I have to be selective in what I commit to.

Happy viewing.

Nice overview. I actually hadnt heard of any of these and will add a few to my viewing list. Currently watched V for Vendetta and Grieselda.

There's so many shows out there and tastes differ. At least you are aware of these now. V for Vendetta is good. I've read the comic too.

My wife and I haven't started the latest season of Only Murders yet. I need to start watching Agatha in my free time.

Time is the limiting factor. I have a list of stuff I'd like to watch some time plus a stack of DVDs I borrowed.

I was interested in Kaos, shame it’s not getting a second season.
We have been watching secret world of sound. Very cool how they visualize the hearing that we humans dont have. Thats been fun!

That sounds interesting. I'll have a look.

Buena recomendacion de series, realmente Neflix es un vasto territorio de distracción .

@steevc, you're rewarding 10 replies from this discussion thread.

I recommend From! There’s only one season on Netflix unfortunately. If you have MAX you can watch other seasons 2 :).

One more recommendation would be “3 body problem” & a Korean one “The 8 show”. It’s a bit brutal but a cool message behind it.

Love your reviews!

I watched 3 Body Problem and read the book before that. I enjoyed the show more than the book. I've got a load of other stuff to watch when I find time.

I was thinking of getting the book too but I heard a lot of people share your opinion so I’ll stick with the show only😅.

So many cool series/movies but so little time 🥲

Thank you for Beer🫶🏻🍻

Hey @driipam, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

I've seen The Umbrella Academy when the final season came out and I binge watched all seasons in less than a week. It was a good show for me although I didn't like the end very much.

I'm a Marvel fan and I love Scarlet Witch, so I loved Wandavision and Agatha All Allong was a must watch since they said they were making it. I loved the series and I loved the Billy Maximoff character. He will be one the most powerful characters in the MCU.

Game of Thrones was a total sensation at its time, I loved all seasons but I didn't like the end of it. I mean, I think they would have done it a little bit different to make it better. I don't say more because you haven't seen all of it.

I don't have seen the other shows you mention, but some of them sounds good for me. Maybe I will give them a try later.

My husband watches Only Murders in the Buildings, he likes these crime thriller films. Same with Ludwig, which I watched it with him, it was good. Looking forward to season 2

Kaos, I wonder if this is the one he mentioned after our recent trip to Athens, something about the film being a bit complex and deep. I might give it a go and see if I can make it through the first episode.

I don't watch general detective stuff, but I like quirky stuff. Kaos it's not too earnest. I expect there's a video explaining it.

I'm currently watching Ludwig - it's critically acclaimed and is being watched by a wide range of age groups.
I'm also looking forward to watching BBC1's six-part adaptation of the last part of the late Hillary Mantel's trilogy, Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light which starts tomorrow on BBC1. Mark Rylance plays Thomas Cromwell and Daman Lewis plays King Henry VIII.

I've not seen Wolf Hall or read the books, but my other half had and we went to the stage play of The Mirror and the Light. I enjoyed that.

I have to admit to not reading the books either, but I have watched the TV adaptation of the first two books. I believe that Mark Rylance is one of the best actors of our time.

Bummed to hear no second season of Kaos. I liked that one a lot. Zeus gets all bent out of shape.

Young Sheldon is a great series, I still have to see the final season as well. They just came out with another spin off for the brother Georgie called Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage. I have to check that one out too.

Game of Thrones is one of my all time favorites. I liked it right up to the end. I'm going to start House of the Dragon in a couple weeks. I always get a Max subscription for the holidays.

Hope all is well. Cheers!

It seems Netflix throws shows out there and they have to hit targets to get another season. Kaos was fun. Those myths are like soap operas. Much more fun than the Christian stories :)

I heard about the Young Sheldon spin-off. We know his dad will die at some point, so I wonder when that comes up.

The problem these days is the number of different streaming services. We just have Disney+ and Netflix. I may look out for second hand box sets of some shows I have missed. That's what I did for GoT.

Mostly good here apart from my current bad back. Hope to get over that soon.

I didn't like how the Umbrella Academy progressed. It also had a similar ending as Dark but the latter handled it better imo. I didn't continue watching Kaos when I heard it will not have a second season. Murders, I'm watching Disney+, it's good so far. Nice to see Steve Martin and Martin Short together again in a show. 😀

Endings are hard to get right, but I can still enjoy the journey. TV should not be taken too seriously.
