Hello to everyone.
Finally, the summer season has come, and now we can grow our own vegetables. When we left the city life and settled in a small town, we had the chance to experience many things. My mother always wanted to grow vegetables. Taking care of the land was his biggest dream. He used to grow peppers in pots when he was in town. Our apartment has 6 houses. When he moved here, there was empty space behind the building. With the consent of our neighbors, we built a small garden there. We have been cultivating and raising something in the summer for three years.
We usually plant vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, green beans, onions, lettuce, mint, parsley and cabbage. Last summer, we added a strawberry (fruit) to our vegetables. Our garden is quite small, but we are a family of three, so the vegetables we plant here are enough for the three of us.
First of all, we had to aerate the soil of our garden. We separated it from the weeds and turned the soil upside down and prepared it for planting. Before planting the seedlings, we mixed the soil thoroughly by pouring sheep manure.
Here we prepare most of the seedlings ourselves, but some of them are brought to our local market by the sellers from the village to sell them. This week, we saw seedlings coming to the market slowly.
We bought ourselves tomato and pepper seedlings. We had other seedlings to buy but the seller said he would bring them in the next week. One of them was the thin pepper, which we called the "pointy hair pepper". I love salting and eating this pepper for breakfast. Among the seedlings we bought, there are pink, red tomatoes and plump green peppers.
Without wasting any time, we planted the seedlings we bought and watered them a little. We water the newly planted plants or flowers. Everyone does this, but we call this process "life water". Whenever I plant something, my mother always calls out "Did you give me the water of life, my daughter?" I can constantly plant something just to hear that word. It's a very meaningful word to me. It is a good feeling to have given life to him by giving him water.
We planted tomatoes and peppers in the middle area. We will plant cucumbers in the top part, beans in the front part and again different kinds of peppers.
These are our self-reproducing mints. Here, mint grows by itself like weeds. Isn't nature wonderful? It always offers us something. While preparing detox water in summer, I do not neglect to use this mint.
These are the strawberries I planted last year. This year, I saw that they have grown and bloomed. I am very lucky to have the chance to eat fruits this summer. By the way, we planted them in a small area in our garden, since strawberries are suitable for spreading too much. We surrounded him in that area, preventing it from spreading irresponsibly.
Strawberries had empty space on their side. I had self-sprouting onions at home, so I planted them in this empty space.
My mother wanted to plant flowers on the edge of the garden. Deep down she wants our garden to be colorful and beautiful. We planted the purple one last year and the other three yesterday. I don't know their names, but my mother said the little ones grew up spreading like grass. Or rather, the seller told him so.
A little ahead of the flowers, there are black cabbages. We didn't plant them too much, or rather, we weren't sure they would grow, but they surprised us. This will be enough for my mother's cabbage soup recipe.
On the right side of the flowers, the parsley seeds that we sprinkled in the past months have already started to grow.
I can't help but mention the heirloom of our garden. Before I turned this place into a vegetable garden, there was a neglected plum tree that grew on its own. We didn't want to take him out of the garden. We took care of him with care. As you can see, the plums are starting to grow. It would be cruel to uproot such a beautiful tree from here. Good thing we took care of growing it. And he will give us these beautiful plums in return.
I know our garden still lacks a lot. As I complete them, I will continue to share them with you here. I'm already ready for this summer. I look forward to their growth and what they will give us as soon as possible.
See you in the next article.
love.
