Today i went a small trip with a car in the mainland of the island. It is the 10th biggest island of Greece. You need about 1 and a half hour to go from one side of the island to the other.
The mainland is very versatile. Mostly mountains with low vegetation.
One interesting place is the marble quarry. It began before 550 BCE. It is said that the quality of the marble is one of the best in the whole world. They used this marble on the Athenian Acropolis and the roof tiles of ancient Olympia.
It is cut like butter.
A lonely belfry. Do not know why it is there. No church nearby.
While i was driving i came upon this place. It is totally different than the rest of the island. A barren land. Like you took a part of another place on earth and brought it here.
I'll be back with more photos.
