A journey to remember.

We were travelling for an annual convention by road. It was supposed to be an early morning travel, but for some reasons, we experienced some delays, and we had to move by 11:00am.

Right from seeing the bus and the driver, I knew we were in for some rough rides to and from our destination.

First, the seats were so badly blistered that you could see the strings of the chair. Also, the body of the bus inside? Good enough to rip your cloth if you mistakenly allow it, and your skin is also not safe from getting bloody from the sharp edges of the body parts.

The journey began, and it was definitely not smooth from the beginning till the end. First, we sat in fours for seats designed for three people per seat.

We set out on the journey, and the driver had first to get fuel from a filling station for an even smoother ride, and that was when the beast in him unleashed.

The roads of Lagos were never empty, and it seemed like he had the perfect skill to navigate the roads without delay, and he did just that. That was a good trait, I would say, but he did something that triggered a quarrel in the bus.

There was a path he was supposed to tow. It was a tarred road, smoother and faster to our destination, but he chose a very rough road, because according to him, that was faster, and he would get to the location faster.

It was as if he was high on something before he began driving because the speed which he suddenly tuned to was one I never thought the bus would be able to bear without catching fire. For a bus with many exposed parts, I was so scared that I was already strategizing in my head how I would escape if it did catch fire.

We screamed, scromed, shouted, pleaded, he wouldn’t listen to us. At some point, my sister’s cloth already caught some of the sharp edges of the bus, and it got badly ripped that we had to find a way to cover up the moment we alighted at our destination.

The roughness of his driving on a rough road made him drove on a sharp-edged stone which busted the tyre on speed, and we could only hope that we wouldn’t die on a lonely path. Gracefully, we were saved. I wasn’t even scared of the bus tumbling, I was more scared of it catching fire because, first, the sun was scorching, and the hotness reflected on the body of the bus.

Finally, we got to our destination, and for the three days at the convention, the body ache I felt from the roughness of the driving was something I had to nurture when I returned home.

I really wish I have more great travel experience like I did when I travelled by air for the first time. I look forward to having that experience countless times in the future. It was funny at first because a 12-hour journey by road took just two hours, and my expression and thoughts were so relaxing. I remember the smile on my face, and the thoughts was like, Phew! THAT WAS GREAT!

I need to experience that again and again for real.

Sometimes you just set your eyes on the bus and you already know what's coming 😂.

Thanks for dropping by.

I really wish I had a choice. I wouldn't have boarded it in the first place.

Such a terrible journey if you ask me why would you even board a bus like that

I blame the organizers who after paying a considerable amount of money for transport went ahead to bring a reckless driver with a tattered bus for us. 🥲

Better be careful when entering bus

I feel your pain
Thank God the car didn't catch fire....
Some drivers can be annoying

Very annoying. Thank you very much.
