Never have I imagined that my Spotify account would get hacked one day. It's not like a bank or social media app which contains tons of personal information about the user.
This happened last year around September to October. I wasn't able to use Spotify for weeks for a reason I can't remember now. Maybe I got busy over something that's why I was not able to use this app for a while.

When I opened the app around last week of October, my account was automatically signed out.
It's been like two or three years since I last logged in the app and I literally can't recall my exact password, e-mail, and even username. Lol. Yup, even my username! I tried to look my accounts list in case I was able to record the details, but there was none. I have no choice but play the guessing and try my luck to log in which in the end only made me frustrated.
I was relieved though when I was able to find out my e-mail address registered to my account but I really can't remember my password.
My last resort was to contact Spotify's customer service. I asked for a password reset.
Spotify's team was quick to respond. Apparently, my account was potentially compromised and they have to log it out.
They included a link to reset my password and the process requires Spotify sending back an e-mail to confirm the password reset. However, no matter how many tries, I was still not receiving any password reset e-mail.
I kept exchanging e-mails with the customer support to try other solutions to receive the password reset e-mail until I came to a realization that it could be my e-mail causing the problem. Last time I used it was three to four years ago. The inbox was cleared when I logged in last October 2024. I searched if my hunch was true and I found out that Yahoo would hold/prevent some incoming e-mails when the account has been dormant.
Fortunately, Spotify was kind enough to let me change my e-mail and everything went smoothly after that.
I got my account back. Finally!!!
However, I noticed something unusual on my recent played songs. Apparently, my someone used my account and played some Spanish songs.
And the dates the songs were played were during those days I wasn't using the app. So, yeah..my account was hacked!
Well, I availed Spotify premium once but that was way back in 2021 and I already disconnected my bank from Spotify. My birthday on the app was even not tue. Or maybe the hacker tried my registered e-mail address. Poor hacker trying to access my dormant e-mail account.

I'm really happy to have my account back. I could've just created a new account but this account already have tailored music and playlist recommendations which I really enjoy and saves me time to search for new songs and create playlists. Also, Spotify Wrapped is important. Lol! I've been using this account since 2015 or 2016 and you can also see the hours you've spent each year and other data from your other spotify activities.
That's all! This may be a reminded to all Spotify users out there to take note of your log in details to save yourself from headache in the future. And be wary of suspicious activities in your accounts as well.
⚡️Rock on!⚡️
